Arum meeting with Marquez this week about Pacquiao fifth fight

marquez213By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will be meeting the Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez this week to try and convince him to take a 5th fight with Manny Pacquiao this September.

Arum feels confident that he’ll be able to talk the 39-year-old Marquez into taking the fight despite Marquez’s recent comments about no longer being interested in fighting Pacquiao after having knocked him out cold last December in a 6th round knockout victory in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum believes Marquez is still interested in Pacquiao fight

marquez456By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum sees Juan Manuel Marquez’s recent comments about not being interested in a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao as nothing more than a negotiating ploy to get a better deal when it comes time for them to start negotiating a deal.

Arum said to the Manilatimes.net “Believe me, Pacquiao-Marquez 5 will happen. Negotiations, this is about negotiations.”

Arum probably says this because Marquez has been so eager in the past to get fights with Pacquiao, and it’s always been so easy for Arum. However, he could be wrong about this because Marquez already talked to his wife before the fourth fight with Pacquiao and they agreed that this would be his last fight.

It might take a 50-50 deal to lure Marquez into fighting Pacquiao again

marquez2By Chris Williams: The days of Bob Arum getting Juan Manuel Marquez to fight Manny Pacquiao for the smaller purse splits appears to be over now that Marquez has said no to a fifth fight with Pacquiao. Marquez says he has nothing else to prove by facing Pacquiao for a fifth fight because he’s already proved that he’s the better fighter in their four fights.

With the huge money that could be snatched in a fifth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, you can bet that Arum will try hard to make this fight happen in September despite Marquez’s comments about being done with Pacquiao. This would be Pacquiao’s biggest fight of his career in terms of pay per view buys, and Arum likely won’t want to let that money get away.

Marquez would likely knock Pacquiao out quicker next time

marquez546By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao and his fans should be happy about Juan Manuel Marquez’s recent decision not to bother facing Paquiao for a 5th fight. I firmly believe that Marquez is really doing Pacquiao – and his loving fans – a big favor by not agreeing to a 5th fight in September because it might be bad for Pacquiao if the fight were to take place.

There are a couple of reasons for this. First off, Pacquiao will be extremely motivated to try and stop Marquez to prove to his loyal fans that his 6th round KO loss to Marquez last December was just a fluke thing. So instead of Pacquiao fighting with intelligence and cunning, we’d likely see him fighting with rage to somehow get even with Marquez.

Marquez should hold out for 50-50 deal from Pacquiao

marquez68By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez says he has zero interest in facing Manny Pacquiao again because he’s already proven all he needed to in their four previous fights. Some of boxing fans feel that Marquez is merely doing this to get a better financial deal from Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum for a fifth fight.

If you look at the disparity of what each fighter made for their fourth fight last December, it was heavily weighted in Pacquiao’s favor with him receiving a guaranteed $25 million to Marquez’s $3 million.

Those numbers would make sense if the buys for the fight were mostly coming from fans that were purchasing it to see Pacquiao, but I’m guessing that as much as half of the pay per view buys were coming from Marquez’s Mexican fans in the United States, so it wasn’t a good deal that Marquez only received a small amount compared to Pacquiao’s purse split.

Marquez not interested in 5th fight with Pacquiao: Where do they go next?

marquez4567By Omar Torres: It has recently been reported that Juan Manuel Marquez is passing up on a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao. If this is in fact Marquez’s final decision, then it’s disappointing as fans would’ve loved to see these two living legends square off once again.

Marquez has reportedly said that he has proven his point with Pacman and there is no need to fight him a fifth time as the business has been settled. So that opens up some questions as far as where both Pacquiao and Marquez go from here if a fifth fight doesn’t happen. Marquez seems to be leaning towards retirement soon and I think he at least has one more meaningful fight left in him, and that is to avenge his loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Marquez doesn’t owe Pacquiao another rematch

pac6By Chris Williams: After having dominated Manny Pacquiao in their four previous fights there’s really no point in 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez to fight Pacquiao again. Marquez proved that he’s the better fighter in the series by knocking Pacquiao out cold last December, and that pretty much put the exclamation point on his superior talent.

At this point I think Marquez shouldn’t waste his time fighting the Filipino a fifth time because the outcomes of the fight will likely fall into one of two categories: Either Marquez will knock Pacquiao out cold again or he’ll end up getting jobbed for a fourth time.

Unless is okay with going into the fight figuring he may have to knock Pacquiao senseless to win, I think it’s a waste of time. We’ve already seen Marquez dominate Pacquiao enough, and it’s pointless for him to do it again.

Arum: Bradley to face winner of Pacquiao-Marquez 5 in 2014

arum3242By Chris Williams: If you’re wondering why WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (29-0, 12 KO’s) is taking a soft first defense of his WBO welterweight title against light welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1, 15 KO’s) on March 16th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, it’s because Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum at Top Rank plans on matching Bradley against the winner of the September bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, according to Dan Rafael.

I can’t say I’m surprised about this news because I figured Bradley would get another shot at Pacquiao if for no other reason that he’s one of the few fighters Arum has in his Top Rank stable at welterweight. Arum doesn’t have much t 147, and since he likes to keep his fights in house, I just knew Bradley would get another shot against Pacquiao really soon.

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez V and PED testing

marquez5By Mark Havey: When Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) left the ring last December after his best ever win, it seemed an open and shut case. True, Manny Pacquiao (54-6-2, 38 KO’s) was winning and the fight always seemed in the balance. But Marquez had done what no one else had ever done. After 6 rounds he had knocked out the ‘fighter of the decade’ and arch rival, Pacquiao. both wanted a knocked to leave no doubt. But the knockout somehow put a question mark over the win.

People soon came forward wanting answers. The main one was this, did Marquez cheat? There were many reasons for people asking this. How had Marquez managed to gain so much muscle towards the end of his career? Pacquiao has a great chin, how had Marquez suddenly gained so much power? Why did he employ one of the world’s biggest cheats as his strength and conditioning coach? There has been alot of controversy.

Diaz: Pacquiao will bounce back

marquez5By Chris Williams: Miguel Diaz, the cutman for Manny Pacquio, doesn’t see any problem with Pacquiao’s brutal 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last year in December. Diaz thinks the KO loss was less harmful for Pacquiao than if he were to take punishment for 12 rounds continuously.

Diaz said to hustleboss.com “It’s not like when you get hit with a punch over and over and over again…I know he’s going to come back. I don’t think that fight will take anything from Manny.”

I don’t know if I agree with that. I know if a fighter gets stunned and the fight is stopped without them being knocked unconscious, then they’re better off in the situation than going through a brutal 12 round beating from someone.
