By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum might be chomping at the bit right now with the news that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is facing WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on September 17th. But this doesn’t mean that Pacquiao will be the next option for Mayweather wants he gets the Ortiz fight out of the way.
Mayweather vs. Ortiz
Mayweather leads by example taking a risky fight against Ortiz rather than an old timer
By Daniel Echevarria: Everyone knows now that September 17 is now the showdown between 34-year-old, six-time undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus 24-ear-old current WBC world champion Victor Ortiz in a venue near you. Mayweather, for those that don’t know, has been away from the ring for a little over a year and his last fight was against a confused Shane Mosley. However, Mosley did land one good shot in the fight, a mega shot on Floyd’s chin that shook the building that has never been done to Mayweather.
Pacquiao will look for a big performance against Marquez now that Mayweather is back
By Dallan o’ Donnell: Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao may have announced his fight with Juan Manual Marquez first but it looks like his thunder has been stolen by the return of Floyd Mayweather making September a bumper fight month featuring the two titans. Pacquiao will now want to put on a vintage display in a third fight with Marquez after his less than impressive and uncharacteristic showing against Shane Mosley in May.
Ortiz is no walk-over; Mayweather must be at the top of his game
By Dallan O’ Donnell: The upcoming September 17th fight between unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) and ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) has been given the title ‘tune up’ by many of Mayweather’s fans. But the reality is that Ortiz is more dangerous to Floyd than De La Hoya and Hatton were when he fought them.
Mayweather will prove he still is the best against Ortiz
By Gerardo Granados: Love him or hate him, but for sure you can´t ignore him. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the most talented boxers in the last twenty years and nowadays there is no other boxer that can be compared to his fine tuned defensive skills; he is a great counter-puncher and his ring smarts are awesome.
Ortiz not impressed with Mayweather’s fighting style
By Jason Kim: WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) isn’t impressed with the fighting style of unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s), who the young 24-year-old Ortiz will be fighting on September 17th. Ortiz is likely going to be a heavy underdog in this fight because he’s facing someone with much more experience as well as technical ability.
Is Mayweather preparing for Pacquiao?
Mayweather-Ortiz: ‘Vicious’ Victor’s big shot is here
By Peter Wells: After what has seemed like a hopeless start to the year in boxing, with Floyd Mayweather Jr in court and ultimately nothing was happening. The fights we were all craving just weren’t happening. And our luck couldn’t have got any worse when Juan Manuel Lopez-Yuriokis Gamboa showdown for the summer came crashing down when Orlando Salido stopped the unbeaten Puerto Rican. But now at last things are looking brighter.
Mayweather and Pacquiao: A trilogy awaits
By Lee Courtney: I’m sure I speak for all boxing fans when I say it is great news that Floyd Mayweather Jnr has decided to re-enter the ring. He undoubtedly creates a buzz of excitement when he announces a fight and he certainly knows how to sell it. Victor Ortiz, is a credible opponent, young, fast, southpaw and a belt holder, a perfect tune-up fight after so long out of the ring, for the showdown with Manny Pacquiao.
Ortiz is no tune-up fight. There’s a good chance Mayweather could lose to him
By Hector Gonzalez: There are two things I want to start of by saying: 1.) Whatever critiques you may have about WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz at 140, (such as him losing to Marcos Maidana in the past) that’s no longer relevant, because Ortiz is fighting at 147 now. 2.) If you have an extra two hundred dollar’s laying around somewhere that you wouldn’t mind risking, you might want to think about betting it.
