Lara-Martirosyan possible for 5/21, with Jermall Charlo vs. Trout

1(Credit: Josh Jordan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Jeff Aranow: An interesting fight card is being planned for May 21 on Showtime Boxing involving three big fights in the 154lb division. IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) will be defending his title against #9 IBF Austin Trout (30-2, 17 KOs), WBA World junior middleweight Erislandy Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) will be facing #4 WBC, #7 WBO Vanes Martirosyan (36-2-1, 21 KOs) in a rematch, and #1 WBC 154lb contender Jermell Charlo (27-0, 12 KOs) will be battling #2 WBC John Jackson (20-2, 15 KOs) in a fight for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title.

The triple-header, if it takes place, will be staged in Houston, Texas. This will be a great card if it comes off. It’s a good ideal to package the three junior middleweight contests together on the same card because it helps set up fights between them in the future almost in a Super Six tournament type of situation.

Jermall Charlo vs. Austin Trout possible 4/30

Austin TroutBy Allan Fox: A fight between unbeaten IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) and former WBA 154lb champion Austin Trout (30-2, 17 KOs) is possible for next month’s April 30th fight card headlined by Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

According to Dan Rafael, Trout, #3 WBA, #3 WBO, #6 WBC, #9 IBF, is the possible opponent for the hard hitting 25-year-old Charlo. However, the 30-year-old Trout might opt to fight WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith instead.

Julian Williams challenges Jermall Charlo to fight him

1-fight night-0011b williams marcello]By Dan Ambrose: After defeating the much smaller, weaker and less skilled #6 IBF contender Macello Matana (16-2, 5 KOs) last night by an easy 7th round knockout, #5 IBF Julian Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) called out IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) to a fight.

Williams, who was soundly beaten by Errol Spence Jr. in the U.S Championships in the past, feels that he’s ready to take on the guy who is arguably the best fighter in the division in the 25-year-old Charlo. This is the harder punching brother, not Jermell Charlo. Jermall can really punch, and Williams wants a part of him.

Spence-Barrera & Charlo-Campfort this Saturday on PBC

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #10 WBA, #10 WBC, #13 WBO welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (18-0, 15 KOs) will be fighting this Saturday night against Alejandro Barrera (26-2, 17 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from The Bomb Factory, in Dallas, Texas.

It’s a fight that isn’t a great match-up for the 25-year-old Spence, but at least it’s a fight that will keep him busy and marching forward with his pro career. Spence wants the bigger fights, but right now he doesn’t have the ranking and the popularity to force those important fights.

Spence recently beat Chris Van Heerden, Phil Lo Greco and Samuel Vargas by knockouts. Those are decent level opposition, but not the kind of opponents that will get Spence the bigger fights that he wants.
