By Jim Dower: Undefeated IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) made his first and possibly his last defense of his IBF 154lb title on Saturday afternoon in destroying #14 IBF contender Wilky Campfort (21-2, 12 KOs) by a 4th round knockout at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas.

Charlo nailed the 31-year-old Campfort with a hard left uppercut that injured his right eye, causing him to back up. Charlo then nailed him with a short right hand to the head that caused Campfort to take a knee. The fight was then halted by referee Mark Calo-Oy.

Besides the 4th round knockdown, Charlo also dropped Campfort in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with rght hand power shots.

Unbeaten #10 IBF welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (19-0, 16 KOs) kept unbeaten with an impressive 5th round knockout win over #13 IBF Alejandro Barrera (28-2, 18 KOs) in their IBF 147lb eliminator bout.

Spence knocked Barrera down twice in the 5th round with body shots. The final stoppage came from a hard left-right to the body that put Barrera down. Barrera was then counted out at 1:46 of the 5th round by referee Lawrence Cole.

Undefeated junior middleweight prospect Erickson Lubin (13-0, 10 KOs) put in an impressive performance in stopping Alexis Camacho (21-6, 19 KOs) in the 2nd round.

Lubin, 20, flattened Camacho with a big right hook to the head in the 2nd round. Camacho was far too hurt to get back to the fight and was counted out. Lubin also knocked Camacho down in the 1st round with a right hook to the head. Moments before that, Lubin had hurt Camacho with a hard right-left combination that staggered him.

Overall, the southpaw Lubin looked good in the fight. He showed excellent punching power, and a good chin. However, his hand speed wasn’t that impressive, and he doesn’t look nearly as big as some of the other junior middleweights like Erislandy Lara, and the Charlo brothers. Lubin would be better off moving down to 147 if he wants to dominate. With his size, he’d have problems if he got in the ring with some of the bigger junior middleweights in the division.

The hard hitting light welterweight John Molina Jr. (27-6, 23 KOs) defeated Jorge Romero (24-10, 21 KOs) by a 3rd round knockout. The harder hitting Molina landed a flurry of big power shots in the 3rd round that hurt Romero, and caused the referee to step in and halt the contest. Molina came into the fight with three straight defeats at the hands of Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner and Humberto Soto. It was good that Molina finally got a win under his belt to stop this losing streak.
