Jermall Charlo vs. Julian Williams this Saturday

charlo-jermall

By Eric Baldwin: IBF World junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) will be making his third defense of his title this Saturday night on December 10 against #1 IBF challenger Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Showtime from the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Charlo-Williams fight is the chief support for the WBA World featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar (28-1) vs. Abner Mares (29-2-1) headliner match on Showtime. Charlo vs. Williams is seen by fans as a toss-up bout, as Charlo didn’t look that good in having to scrape by former WBA 154lb champion Austin Trout last May in beating him by a narrow 12 round unanimous decision.

Jermall Charlo vs. Julian Williams on December 10

1-LR_FIGHT NIGHT-CHARLO VS TROUT-TRAPPFOTOS-05212016-2148

By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) will be defending his title against his #1 IBF mandatory challenger Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) on December 10 on Showtime Boxing at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

This should be a good test for the 26-year-old Charlo. He did not shine in his second defense of his International Boxing Federation 154lb title last May. Charlo won the fight by building an early lead, but he really ran out of gas in the second half of the contest, as Trout came storming back to make it close on the cards.

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) and his undefeated #1 IBF challenger Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) could be facing each other in December due to the fight being pushed back because of an eye problem for the young 26-year-old Charlo, according to Ring TV. They had previously been looking to face each other in October, but the eye injury will require that the fight get pushed back two months to December. Hopefully, there won’t be any issues that will extend it even further.

Charlo might be better off giving up his International Boxing Federation 154lb title and moving up in weight to middleweight, because I think he needs to move up at this point in his career.

By Jeff Aranow: After making an easy voluntary title defense last Saturday night against an over-matched fringe contender James “Jazza” Dickens, Rigondeaux got the bad news on Tuesday with the World Boxing Association ordering him to start negotiations with unbeaten WBA interim 122lb champion Moises “Chucky” Flores (25-0, 17 KOs).

Rigondeaux and the 29-year-old Flores have 30 days to negotiate the fight until August 17. A purse bid will be called if the two fighters haven’t successfully negotiated the fight by that date.

By Jeff Aranow: The International Boxing Federation will be ordering IBF 154lb champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) to fight #1 IBF mandatory Julian Williams (22-0 -1, 14 KOs) this week. Charlo, 26, will then have three months to make the fight otherwise he’ll be stripped of his title.

Williams’ manager Stephen Edwards has doubts whether Charlo will take the fight. He’s not sure. He thinks there’s a possibility Charlo will wind up vacating the IBF belt due to the problems he’s having in making the 154lb weight limit and the potentially difficult fight he’d have against Williams.
