Lennox Lewis: Froch needs to improve to beat Andre Ward

ward765By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis was pleased with IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s win last night over WBA champ Mikkel Kessler, but Lewis is realistic about Froch’s chances in a rematch against WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward.

Lewis feels that unless Froch improves a whole lot over what he showed last night against Kessler, he’ll get taken to school by Ward if he chooses to ever fight the talented American again.

Ward beat Froch with a broken left hand two years ago in a one-sided fight, and he says it’ll be even easier with two healthy hands.

Andre Ward to Froch’s promoter: Pick up the phone if you want a fight

ward54By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward called IBA/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s bluff after learning that Froch said he was interested in fighting him if Ward would be willing to come to the UK to fight Froch in front of a mass of his British fans. Ward told Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn to contact him if he wants to make the fight.

Ward said on his social media site to Eddie Hearn: “It’s very simple. Pick up the phone, Eddie Hearn!!”

I think it’s safe to say that phone won’t be picked up by Hearn to call Ward. Heck, Froch has had two years to try and get a rematch with Ward after being royally whipped by him in the Super Six tournament in 2011, and Froch hasn’t lifted a finger to try and avenge his defeat to him.

Froch: Ward has to come to the UK to fight me

froch302By Scott Gilfoid: Fresh off of his 12 round unanimous decision win over WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler tonight in London, England, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch gave his one condition for WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward to fight him – the fight has to take place in the UK where Froch lives.

In other words, Froch doesn’t want to come to the United States to fight Ward again after losing to him by a 12 round unanimous decision in December 2011 while the two were taking part in the Super Six tournament hosted by Showtime Sports.

Froch said to Sky Sports tonight: “He [Ward] is there to be beaten, but not over in America. Let’s get him over here. I went over to America and now let’s get him over to England. I said before this fight that the winner should really be concentrating on moving on and my other loss was to pound for pound number two in the world Andre Ward.”

Ward to Froch: Atlantic City isn’t my hometown

Image: Ward to Froch: Atlantic City isn't my hometownBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward took the time to respond to IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s request that Ward fight him in the UK now to pay Froch back for having fought Ward in his home turf.

Ward said this on his twitter today: “Froch said he fought me in my backyard. Well, Atlantic City is almost 3,000 Mi away from home for me. I tried to tell him…he wouldn’t listen. Lol!! Uhh Ohh…We just woke the Cobra!! He just tweeted me.”

Hearn still convinced Andre Ward will come to the UK to fight Froch

Image: Hearn still convinced Andre Ward will come to the UK to fight FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: After last night’s fight, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn was desperately grasping at any possibility that WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) will come over to the UK to fight Froch in the summer in an outdoor stadium in Nottingham. Froch beat Yusaf Mack by a 3rd round knockout last Saturday night, and Hearn was already looking ahead of Froch’s next fight with Lucian Bute in March towards a rematch with Froch.

Hearn said this about Ward during the post-fight press conference: “We’ll have to ask for an exception from the IBF [International Boxing Federation]. Adonis Stevenson [Froch’s IBF mandatory challenger] will have to wait [if the IBF grants the exception].

Hearn wants Froch-Ward 2 in 2013

Image: Hearn wants Froch-Ward 2 in 2013By Scott Gilfoid: Despite the fact that his fighter Carl Froch was completely schooled in a one-sided fight by American WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, Eddie Hearn says he’s interested in putting that fight together again in the United States.

It doesn’t make sense from Froch and Hearn’s perspective because nothing has changed since them. Froch is still the same fighter that Ward dominated last December and a rematch between them would only be worse for Froch and Hearn the second time around because Ward won’t have a broken left hand.

Froch: A rematch with me and Andre Ward would be much different

Image: Froch: A rematch with me and Andre Ward would be much differentBy Scott Gilfoid: It seems that IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch can’t forget the schooling he got from the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward last December in the Super Six tournament finals because Froch is flapping his gums about the loss instead of accepting that he fought a superior talent who put him in his place.

Froch said “I’m the closest guy to ever come to beating [Ward], and I had a bad night at the office. I under performed that night…The rematch would be different…stylistically, he’s a spoiler…that’s why he has no fans. He can’t sell a ticket in California, which is where he’s from.”

Froch: I know I can beat Andre Ward

Image: Froch: I know I can beat Andre WardBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) hasn’t even beaten his November 17th opponent Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) and already Froch is looking past him towards the guy that schooled him last December in the Super Six tournament, the talented WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s). Froch wants a rematch with the 28-year-old Ward and feels he can beat him this time.

Froch said to Thisisnottingham.co.uk “I know I can beat him [Ward]. I lost a close points decision, 115-113 two of the judges had it. That is one round behind a draw. I am the closest man to nearly beat him and I was off my game…I would love to beat Ward and set the record straight, of course, I would.”

Ward: I beat Froch with one hand; I’m ready to fight him again

Image: Ward: I beat Froch with one hand; I'm ready to fight him againBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward is game for facing one of his recent victims Carl Froch and beating him again if the Brit is up for it. Recently, Froch’s win over IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute has planted some ideas in Froch’s head to where he’s now saying he could beat Ward if he’s at his best like he was in the Bute fight.
