Will we be seeing Froch vs. Dirrell II?

dirrell34324384By David Lahr: The World Boxing Conference put out the following statement about a potential rematch between WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and American challenger Andre Direll: “if a rematch could be scheduled without interfering with the [Super Six] tournament it will be approved. If it cannot then Dirrell will become the mandatory challenger after the tournament has finished..” This is all well and good, but the chances of their being a rematch while the tournament takes place are remote at this time. Froch has an upcoming match against Mikkel Kessler and Dirrell will be facing Arthur Abraham.

Dirrell and Froch Disappoint

froch563454By Glen Anglin: Saturday’s Super six level one match in Nottingham was a disappointment both stylistically and for entertainment value. Both men failed to produce a solid performance and the fight devolved to a dissatisfying spectacle lacking drama.

The highly-touted (in the USA, at least) Dirrell showed tantalizing flashes of the ring skills that have made many boxing pundits see him through rose glasses. He demonstrated very fast hand and foot speed; excellent head movement and reflexes; and a rare ability to shift stances smoothly and punch well from either stance, left-handed or right-handed. That’s the good news.

Styles make fights: Dirrell schooled Froch

dirrell-froch123455By Dennis Broadhurst: Sorry for the late article but I only saw the Froch-Dirrell fight last night. I am a British boxer and boxing fan so I was favoring Froch on this one, I wanted Froch to win. After seeing the boring early start to the fight I expected Froch to come on strong and put Dirrell under pressure but he didn’t. All the fight showed was the skill and lightning speed of the young American who I think should be 19-0. I am afraid I have to agree with another writer on this site who I have criticised in the past, he was right, Dirrell should have won that fight.

Mcguigan says that Froch didn’t deserve to get win over Dirrell – News

dirrell4523343By Scott Gilfoid: This maybe somewhat disappointing to many boxing fans of WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch but the talented boxing great Barry Mcguigan believes that Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) should have won the fight between him and Froch last weekend, according to an article from Mcguigan in The Mirror. Mcguigan, a former WBA featherweight champion and now an expert boxing analyst, says “Froch got the decision but in my view he didn’t deserve it.”

Will Someone Shut Up Carl Froch?

froch53445By Kevin Pasquale: Showtime’s Super 6 Tournament, which now some are calling the “Super 5”, with the obliteration of Jermain Taylor, is the perfect tournament, for the following reason, amongst many. Some of the best super-middleweight fighters in the world will get the chance to defeat the overly arrogant, eminently beatable Carl Froch. Exhibit A:

Shaw: “Maybe we [Dirrell] should have traded from round one” [with Froch]

shaw5644By William Mackay: In an article at the BBC, previously undefeated super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell’s manager Gary Shaw admitted after the fight that Dirrell should have fought differently against WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch last Saturday night, commenting “we kept telling him [Dirrell] to box, but after watching him in rounds 10, 11 and 12, trading with Froch, maybe we should have traded from round one.”

Does anyone think Dirrell looked good against Froch?

dirrell3423433By Al Francis: Showtime’s exciting and innovative super six series got off to a flying start this past Saturday. Two out of the three opening bouts were contested, a major championship was up for grabs, 23 rounds were completed and another one almost completed! Firstly Arthur Abraham scored a chilling final round knockout over Jermain Taylor in Berlin, knocking out this writer’s pre fight prediction in the process! Up to that point in the fight it wasn’t a terribly difficult one to score, with Taylor boxing well in the first four rounds before Abraham upped his game and took the lead in the later rounds.

Froch defeats Dirrell; Abraham stops Taylor – Boxing Results

By Edd Watson: Before the super six started, all we heard from the Americans was how good their fighters were and how they had fought much better opposition and how they’d wipe the floor with the “poor” Europeans. Arthur “The King” Abraham outclassed Jermaine Taylor and made him look very old before eventually knocking him out. Carl “The Cobra” Froch was and is average at best but he still managed to beat the very fast American Andre “The Matrix” Dirrell.
