Too many biased judges, referees and writers in boxing

By Dennis Broadhurst: This article has been written to highlight the amount of people in boxing who make clearly biased actions and judgments. Last week I was at a boxing gym getting a medical examination and to watch my coach in his first amateur fight.

In the fight my coach landed a total of 18 hooks to body and head, while his opponent landed 3 jabs in the entire fight. My coach dictated the pace and landed more punches, when the fight went to the decision my coach lost with scores of 5 points to 4, the judges were local as was the fighter. At least 15 people came up to my coach after the bout and said that it was a dreadful decision.

This happened in another two fights out of the twelve that night. Judging like this will put off many up and coming fighters that could do well in amateur carers which in time will decrease the amount of pro boxers coming into the ranks. This sort of judging is also present in the pro ranks, recently we have had questionable decisions between Tyson Fury and John McDermott and also on a higher scale Malignaggi vs Diaz. This sort of judging angers fans, trainers and fighters. In fact the only people it pleases are some dodgy refs who are on the pay role and greedy promoters.

Another thing which has come to mind are some biased articles written by some of the writers on boxingnew24, not naming anyone. This kind of article does nobody favours, it just angers true boxing fans with open minds. Unless a writer is trying to convince readers of something which is explained in the title, such as my recent article titled “Why Muhammad Ali would beat Tyson”.

Articles hating on fighters such as Carl Froch and Manny Pacquaio who are world champions in their respective weight classes are completely pointless and I would like to see the writers of such articles getting into the ring with either Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Ricky Hatton or Juan Manuel Marquez.
