The 6’2″ southpaw Dawson was so much better back then, showing better hand speed, throwing more combinations, looking lighter on his feet and displaying better defensive ability. Back then, Dawson easily beat a young version of Tomasz Adamek by a lopsided 12 round decision.

Ward, 28, was coming off a hand injury to his left hand and hadn’t fought since December when he defeated Carl Froch in the Super Six tournament finals. The long period of inactivity made it difficult for Ward to get back into the swing of things.
