Mayweather Sr: Chad Dawson hasn’t looked good since I trained him

Image: Mayweather Sr: Chad Dawson hasn't looked good since I trained himBy Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Sr. wasn’t pleased with the performance of Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) in his 10th round stoppage loss to WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward last month. Mayweather Sr., who has a big impact on shaping he fighting style of Dawson during his time as his trainer, was especially upset with seeing Dawson quit in the 10th round after getting knocked down by Ward. Mayweather Sr. felt that Dawson could and should have kept fighting.

Speaking with Fighthype.com, Mayweather Sr. said “The best he [Dawson] ever looked was with Floyd Mayweather Sr. He ain’t looked that good sense. He ain’t no f***** fighter…He quit when he could still fight…Ain’t got no balls.”

Mayweather thinks Chad Dawson made a mistake by draining down to 168 for Andre Ward fight

Image: Mayweather thinks Chad Dawson made a mistake by draining down to 168 for Andre Ward fightBy Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks that WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) made a big mistake by agreeing to drain down from 175 pounds to fight WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) at 168 in their fight on September 8th in Oakland, California. Dawson looked weak and weight drained for that fight, and ended up getting stopped in the 10th round in a one-sided fight.

Mayweather said to fighthype.com “If I was Chad Dawson, me myself, I wouldn’t have lost that weight. And he went to Andre’s hometown. It should have been on neutral turf.”

Chad Dawson: The Doomed Decision

Image: Chad Dawson: The Doomed DecisionBy Kevin Pasquale: After Andre Ward cleaned out all comers in Showtime’s “Super 6” Super Middleweight tournament, including the likes of Kessler, Abraham, AND Froch, all in convincing fashion, it was clear that Ward had staked his claim as the king of the 168-pound division, and at the same time, worked his way into the likes of the pound-for-pound pantheon of kingpins, sharing company with the likes of Mayweather, Pacquiao, Martinez, and others.

At around the same time, Chad Dawson had staked his claim as the clear light heavyweight champ, after easily outpointing the crafty Bernard Hopkins in their (2nd) matchup in April 2012, following his other convincing victories over strong light-heavies such as Tarver, Johnson, And Adamek.

Andre Ward knocks out a weight drained Chad Dawson

Image: Andre Ward knocks out a weight drained Chad Dawson(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Marcus Stewart: Without much surprise the bout between WBC and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward and Lineal Light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson was a complete let down after Andre Ward knocked Chad Dawson out in impressive yet predictable style.

You can tell from the word go that Chad Dawson wasn’t himself. He seemed slow, sluggish and lacked in much energy throughout the fight. Andre Ward successfully exploited that and was able to pot shot Dawson for most of the night with his jab and left hook. Many people felt that Andre Ward proved that he is without a doubt one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet. I strongly disagree with this claim.

Ward proves that he’s unstoppable at 168 in easily beating Dawson

Image: Ward proves that he's unstoppable at 168 in easily beating DawsonBy Dan Ambrose: Right now the skies the limit for WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) after he effortlessly defeated Bad Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) by a 10th round TKO on Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

This fight proved that there’s no one that can touch the 28-year-old Ward right now. If Dawson, the best fighter at light heavyweight, can’t beat Ward then there probably isn’t a fighter at 168 that can touch him, at least for now. Ward has already proven that he’s better than some of the other top super middleweights like Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, Sakio Bika and Carl Froch.

Chad Dawson risks so much in facing Andre Ward

Image: Chad Dawson risks so much in facing Andre WardBy Mark Havey: Tonight will see Bernard Hopkins conqueror, Chad Dawson (31-1-0-2, KO’s 17) face off against the talented Andre Ward (25-0-0, KO 13)’s . For Dawson, the road is perilous, but the rewards are unparalleled. It has been well known that Dawson has experienced difficulty in filling seats. That could all change tonight.

This fight shows what kind of champion Chad Dawson is. The kind of champion who isn’t contented to just defend his WBC light heavyweight belt. He wants to scale new heights and constantly challenge himself. This frame of mind could make him very popular. Dawson doesn’t really need to take this challenge. He is number one at light heavyweight. He is the WBC champion. yet he is stepping down in weight, meeting Ward on terms that don’t really help him in anyway. It could be a huge mistake agreeing to go down in weight.

Image: Dawson hoping to take his career to another level with a victory over Ward on SaturdayBy Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s) is hoping that a victory over WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) on Saturday night will give his career a big shot in the arm with him picking up a lot of fans. Dawson, 30, and Ward meet up at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California in a fight that will be aired by HBO, along with a fight between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Manuel Charr in a split site telecast.

Dawson said as quoted by Yahoo Sports News “A victory over Andre Ward would mean a lot for my career. We’re talking about somebody who is rated very high on the pound-for-pound list, and somebody who has a lot of recognition.”

A victory for Dawson may not turn him into a star over night, but it he were able to take that victory and follow it up with victories over the likes of Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, and Arthur Abraham, Dawson will be well on his way to becoming a big star. Sadly, Dawson would be lucky if he can even one of those fighters to face him in the ring.
