Kell Brook still blaming his poor performance against Carson Jones on not being 100%

brook122By Scott Gilfoid: Rather than admitting that he got worn down by the pressure and the talent from welterweight contender Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) last year in July, Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) is saying that he wasn’t at the top of his game due to conditioning issues, which he supposedly has fixed for tonight’s rematch between them at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Brook said to Sky Sports “He [Carson Jones] was at 100 percent that night and I was nowhere near…that fight bugged me because I knew I had let myself down and cut some corners in the build-up.”

Carson Jones shoves Kell Brook at weigh-in

brook125By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight contender Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) showed who’s boss at today’s weigh-in with unbeaten #1 IBF, Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) by giving him a hard shove when Brook started yapping about Jones pushing him with his head when the two fighters came head to head during their stare down for tomorrow night’s fight at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Both fighters successfully made for the 152 lb. catch-weight fight. It was Brook’s teams’ idea to have the fight take place at 152 because he hadn’t fought in a while due to injuries. Jones wanted the fight to take place at 147 like normal welterweight fights are, but Brooks’ team wanted the catch-weight. Jones weighed in at 151.75, and Brook came in at 151.

Kell Brook vs. Carson Jones 2 preview

brook1By Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): Almost a year ago, after 6 rounds, everything was going so smoothly at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. But suddenly Kell Brook ran into a brick wall, in both himself and the 44 fight veteran, Carson Jones.

At the end of the torturous 12 rounds, Kell Brook was left beaten but still undefeated, but barely as his American opponent received all the praise for a performance not expected from a boxer seen as nothing more than a stepping stone for the ‘Steel City’s’ latest star.

Kell Brook sees himself making a statement against Carson Jones on July 13th

brook123By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be taking his career backwards to face Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) on July 13th to try and clear up the controversy from his last fight with the American last year in July in Sheffield. Brook, #1 IBF, #8 WBO, won that fight by a controversial 12 round majority decision, but many boxing fans think Jones did more than enough to deserve at least a draw out of the fight, if not an outright win.

Jones made a mess of Brook’s nose and gave him a real thrashing in the last six rounds of the fight. In the 12th, Jones had Brook out on his feet and within a couple of punches of being knocked out. However, the referee stopped the action right at that moment to give Jones a lengthy warning for something, and this allowed Brook enough time to gather himself and make it out of the round without getting knocked out.

Lee Purdy vs. Carson Jones postponed

By Scott Gilfoid: The December 8th scheduled bout between welterweight fringe contender Lee Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO’s) and Carson Jones (34-9-2, 24 KO’s) has been postponed due to Purdy getting sick. He reportedly has some kind of virus and he won’t be ready to go on Saturday at the Olympia, in London, England.

Carson Jones vs. Lee Purdy = An easy win for Jones

Image: Carson Jones vs. Lee Purdy = An easy win for JonesBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is really rolling the dice by putting his fighter IBF International welterweight champion Lee Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO’s) in with #7 IBF Carson Jones (34-9-2, 24 KO’s) on December 8th at the Olympia, Kensington, in London, United Kingdom. Talk about your risky gambles.

Purdy, 25, stands no chance of winning this fight outside of winning it by an incredibly controversial decision like the one we saw when Carson Jones lost to Hearns’ fighter Kell Brook last July in the UK. Many people this writer included, saw Jones winning that fight quite handily.

Carson Jones sees Trout as tough fight for Cotto

Image: Carson Jones sees Trout as tough fight for CottoBy Dan Ambrose: Welterweight contender Carson Jones has been helping Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) out recently with sparring to try and get him ready for his December 1st fight against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Jones has a pretty good idea of how good Cotto is after sparring with him and can give an expert opinion about whether Cotto has a real chance against Trout or not.

Jones said to Chris Robinson at CRHarmony “I think it’s a tough fight for Miguel. Austin is young, hungry, but he just doesn’t have the names on his resume yet. I think this will be a tough fight for Cotto.”

Lee Purdy to fight Carson Jones on December 8th or 15th

Image: Lee Purdy to fight Carson Jones on December 8th or 15thBy Scott Gilfoid: In a laughable mismatch, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that Lee Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO’s) will be facing #7 IBF welterweight contender Carson Jones (34-9-2, 24 KO’s) in December some time in a venue still to be determined. The fight will likely take place on December 8th or 15th, and obviously in the UK.

It’s basically a fight between domestic level fighter in the 25-year-old Purdy going up against a world class guy in Jones. Nothing good can come of this fight for Purdy unless we get some odd scoring where Jones loses despite dominating.
