Kell Brook sees himself making a statement against Carson Jones on July 13th

brook123By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be taking his career backwards to face Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) on July 13th to try and clear up the controversy from his last fight with the American last year in July in Sheffield. Brook, #1 IBF, #8 WBO, won that fight by a controversial 12 round majority decision, but many boxing fans think Jones did more than enough to deserve at least a draw out of the fight, if not an outright win.

Jones made a mess of Brook’s nose and gave him a real thrashing in the last six rounds of the fight. In the 12th, Jones had Brook out on his feet and within a couple of punches of being knocked out. However, the referee stopped the action right at that moment to give Jones a lengthy warning for something, and this allowed Brook enough time to gather himself and make it out of the round without getting knocked out.

That fight showed Brook’s level pretty clearly. He’s right at the same level as Jones in terms of talent.

Brook said to Sky Sports news “I am going to make a statement in this fight…I could have had an easier opponent, but the last fight was an exciting, mouth-watering fight, and I think the fans deserve this.”

Well, if Brook can’t beat a fringe contender like Carson Jones then the World Boxing Organization and IBF need to make some radical adjustments to their inflated rankings for Brook because they have him ranked too high. Jones is a fighter that you’re supposed to be able to beat with ease if you’re ranked #1 by the IBF like Brook is.

Brook and Jones will be fighting at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom instead of in Sheffield.

I think Brook kind of had to go back and face Carson Jones again because he took so much punishment in winning last year in his controversial win that it was almost like a loss because of how bad Brook looked in that fight.
