Alexander-Brook pushed back to March 2nd

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) suffered an ankle injury in training recently, and he’s not going to be able to make the original January 19th date in his title challenge against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s). The Brook-Alexander fight will now be pushed back to March 2nd at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Matthysse vs. Lundy on Alexander-Brook undercard on 1/19 in Los Angeles, CA

Image: Matthysse vs. Lundy on Alexander-Brook undercard on 1/19 in Los Angeles, CABy Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) will be fighting a well known lightweight American Hank Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KO’s) on the undercard of the Devon Alexander vs. Kell Brook fight on January 19th at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA. The Matthysse-Lundy fight is being negotiated still, according to RingTV, but it looks like it’s going to be added to the Brook vs. Alexander card.

It’s a peculiar choice for Matthysse because Lundy is coming off of a loss in his last fight to Raymundo Beltran and Lundy was already exposed previous to that by John Molina. However, Lundy is well known to the casual boxing fans in the U.S because of his fights on ESPN2, so it makes sense from that standpoint, if nothing else.

Brook: I can’t wait to get Alexander in the ring

Image: Brook: I can't wait to get Alexander in the ringBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) says he’s eager to get in the ring to fight IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) in their fight on January 19th in the United States.

Brook, who’s been brought along at a glacial pace with his career, thinks he can rise to the occasion and beat Alexander and then take his International Boxing Federation 147 pound title back to the UK so he can show it off. That’s probably not going to happen, but it makes for a good goal for Brook to have.

Devon Alexander will expose Brook’s lack of experience

Image: Devon Alexander will expose Brook's lack of experienceBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s never a good idea to bring a fighter along against soft opposition for long period of time and then suddenly throw them in with a champion and expect positive results to occur. It’s garbage in garbage out. IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will be defending his title on January 19th against #1 IBF Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) in the United States in a location that is still being worked out.

Brook is a classic example of a fighter that has been brought along at a glacial pace with utterly soft opposition, including his International Boxing Federation 147 lb eliminator bout that he fought last October against a fighter by the name of Hector David Saldivia.

Devon Alexander vs. Kell Brook on 1/19 in U.S

Image: Devon Alexander vs. Kell Brook on 1/19 in U.SBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks after all the fuss that Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn made about trying to get IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) to come over to the UK to fight his guy Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) it doesn’t look as if Hearn is going to get his way, as RingTV is reporting that an agreement has been made for the fight to take place on January 19th in the United States.

What this means of course is that Brook will have little chance of beating Alexander because Alexander is pretty unbeatable in the U.S. Brook will have little chance of winning the fight unless he can score a knockout.

Kell Brook could fight Jan Zaveck if Devon Alexander vacates IBF title

Image: Kell Brook could fight Jan Zaveck if Devon Alexander vacates IBF titleBy Scott Gilfoid: If Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is able to win a purse bid with Golden Boy Promotions, we could see a possible scenario where IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander chooses to vacate his title rather than taking the chance of going over to the UK and winding up losing his strap by a controversial decision.

Although Alexander is saying that he has no intention of giving up his IBF title this could change if he’s forced to fight Brook in the UK in front of 12,000 screaming Brits. I think Alexander is the better fighter of the two, but I question whether he can win a decision over Brook in the UK.

Hearn: Devon Alexander will have no choice but to fight Brook in the UK if I win purse bids

Image: Hearn: Devon Alexander will have no choice but to fight Brook in the UK if I win purse bidsBy Scot Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is counting on being able to win a purse bid to get IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander over to the UK to fight his fighter #1 IBF mandatory challenger Kell Brook in early 2013. Hearn envisions packing a 12,000 seat stadium in England for a Brook vs. Alexander fight. However, for this to happen Hearn is going to need mighty deep pockets to beat out Alexander’s promotional company Golden Boy Promotions for the purse bid to determine where the fight will take place.

Hearn said to Sky Sports News “If I win the purse bids then Alexander has no choice but to come and fight in England or vacate the title. I know we can easily fill the 12,000 Sheffield Arena and we also have significant domestic and international TV backing.”

Cunningham: Kell Brook will have to fight Alexander in U.S

Image: Cunningham: Kell Brook will have to fight Alexander in U.SBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn’s dream of getting IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) over to the UK to fight his guy Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) isn’t going to be happening. Alexander’s trainer Kevin Cunningham shot that idea down straight away, saying it’s not going to happen.

Cunningham told Fighthype.com “The only way it happens [Brook-Alexander fight] is if it’s in the U.S, because there’s no how we will go overseas.”
