Alexander suffers bicep injury, fight with Brook postponed

alexander232By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) has reportedly suffered a biceps injury while training for his scheduled February 23rd title defense against unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) in Detroit, Michigan. The injury is bad to where Alexander’s fight with Brook will need to be postponed until a later date.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn said on his twitter “We received the news from Golden Boy Boxing that Devon Alexander has pulled out of the fight due to a bicep injury. We will have a new date ASAP [as soon as possible].”

Brook: I was ready to go in and take Alexander’s title

brook8By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) received some bad news earlier today about his fight against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) being postponed because of an injury Alexander suffered while in training for their now canceled February 23rd fight.

That fight date is now off, but the fight is still very much on, but they need to figure out how long it’s going to take for Alexander’s injured bicep to heal before they can give a date for the fight.

Kell Brook: It’s my destiny to beat Alexander and take his title

1254By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) sounds like a man that’s possessed as the time gets nearer for him to step inside the ring and face IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) on February 23rd at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.

Brook said “There’s no way that I am coming home without that world title. This is my destiny, it’s just meant to be and there’s nothing Devon Alexander can do to stop me.”

Alexander-Brook: Look for Kell’s stamina problems to rear it’s ugly head

brook453By Scott Gilfoid: We’ve seen unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) experience serious stamina issues in his fights with Matthew Hatton and Carson Jones in 2012, and we’ve heard the excuses about Brook’s diet being the cause of it.

We’ve heard Brook’ promoter Eddie Hearn crowing about how Brook’s stamina problems were solved once and for all following his 3rd round TKO of Hector David Saldivia in October of last year in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout. I’m not buying it for an instance.

Hearn: Brook has to bully Alexander to win

brook1By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn believes he’s got all figured out how his inexperienced fighter Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) can beat IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) in their fight on February 23rd in Detroit, Michigan.

Hearn thinks that all Brook needs to do is rough Alexander up in the same way that the head-butting Timothy Bradley did in beating Alexander by a 10th round technical decision victory in January 2010. Nevermind the fact that the Alexander-Bradley fight was halted after Bradley collided heads with Alexander in the 10th, hurting him. Hearn still thinks this is the way to go for Brook to beat Alexander on February 23rd.

Alexander’s trainer wants Mosley next after Kell Brook fight

mosley3334By Dan Ambrose: Kevin Cunningham, the trainer for IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s), likes the idea of Alexander facing 41-year-old Shane Mosley if Alexander is able to successfully defend his title next month against unbeaten challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) on February 23rd in Detroit, Michigan.

Cunningham told ringtv “Why not Shane?…We would love to oblige Shane with a shot at Devon’s IBF title. We would like to extend an invitation to Shane to come on out to Detroit on February 23rd and to sit at ringside for out fight.”

Kell Brook & Devon Alexander: They are not the best but it’s going to be a good fight

alexander23By Rusty Nate: Kell Brook (29-0-0) travels to Detroit in February to make his attempt at the IBF World Title currently held by Devon Alexander (24-1-0).

There is a lot of opinion flying around about this fight. The majority of the American writers seem to be completely writing Brook off as a hype job who will fail miserably and disappear into the boxing twilight zone of the “never quite made it” fighters.

I don’t really understand this point of view, its not like he fighting an elite level world champion.

Brook picking the wrong guy to fight in Devon Alexander

brook554By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) is picking the wrong champion and the wrong time to be finally stepping it up against a quality opposition after 9 years as a pro. Brook will be challenging IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Brook, 25, has been spoon fed all these years nothing but incredibly weak opposition and even in his last two fights, he was still facing weak opponents. Well, spoon fed opposition ends on February 23rd when he fights Alexander, and there’s going to be a lesson learned from this after Brook gets spanked badly.

Alexander-Brook, Bundrage-Smith on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan

alexander34By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will be defending his title against the highly hyped Brit Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) on February 23rd in a fight at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The Brook-Alexander fight is one where we may see Brook get really punished and possibly even stopped because he’s coming into this fight with almost zero real world experience.

It’s like Brook has had nothing but simulator fights rather than the real thing for the past 8 years because his opposition has been god awful during all these years. When his promoter Eddie Hearn put Brook in with slightly decent fighter in Carson Jones in July of 2012, Brook took a sad beating and was staggering around with a red nose in the 12th, looking a like he’d just come out of the Shochu Lounge and had his fill.

Alexander vs. Brook: Kell faces his first real test of his career on February 23rd in Detroit, Michigan

brook2By Scott Gilfoid: It’s hard to believe that 8-year pro Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be facing his first real test of his career when he meets up with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

This is going to be a tough battle for the 26-year-old Brook because he’s not had anyone even close to being on the same talent level as Alexander, and when he was stepped up a little bit in facing Carson Jones earlier this year in July, Brook was fought to a standstill in winning a controversial 12 round majority decision in a fight where Brook was really lucky he wasn’t knocked out in.
