Devon Alexander to fight on May 18th with or without Kell Brook

alexander4334By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) better hope his injured foot has a miraculous recovery because of it’s not healed by May 18th in time for his title challenge against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s), then Brook may end up waiting an awful long time before he gets another shot at the title.

Alexander’s promoter at Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer is saying that Alexander will be fighting on May 18th against somebody. If it’s Brook, then it’s all good, but if he can’t make it to the fight due to his aching feet then that’s on him.

Alexander will fight somebody else and Brook will either have to wait another four to six months for another chance or he’ll have to look elsewhere for another welterweight champion to fight.

Kell Brook injured again, fight with Alexander up in the air

brook2323By Scott Gilfoid: Once again, British welterweight Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) has suffered another injury to his lower extremities that’s putting his title shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s).

Previously, Brook hurt his ankle causing his fight with Alexander to be postponed until February. Then it was Alexander’s turn with injuring his left bicep, making it necessary for their fight to be postponed until May 18th.

Now Brook has injured his foot and there’s a chance that the fight will need to be postponed for a third time.

Alexander vs. Brook: Alexander’s experience or Brook’s strength?

brook1By Craig Hilton: There has been a great deal of intrigue and speculation concerning the massive world title fight between IBF world title holder, Devon Alexander (25-1), and UK superstar Kell Brook (29-0) on 18/05/2013 at The Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Does Devon Alexander have too much experience? Does Brook have too much power?

The stakes are high: a win for Alexander would put the wheels in motion for the big-money fight he craves with Floyd Mayweather Junior (43-0); a win for Brook would establish him in the USA, creating lucrative opportunities for his career. I’d like to highlight some of the key factors that may determine the outcome of this huge and career-defining fight.

Alexander hoping to win over UK fans by beating Kell Brook on May 18th

alexander342By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) believes he can siphon off the British fans by beating their hero unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) on May 18th in their fight at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Alexander isn’t one of those angry fighters that have issues with the fans of his opponents.

He prefers to win over the fans of his opponents by looking so good in beating them that their fans just naturally come over to him. He’s humble and he doesn’t gloat after he dominates his opponent, and I don’t expect that to change on May 18th when he faces Brook.

Alexander said on his social media site: “To all my UK fans and non UK fans after I beat Kell you will be a fan #Guarantee.”

Alexander: I’ll be fighting Kell Brook next; I’m obligated

alexander45By Scott Gilfoid: Yesterday, IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander took some time out to let his unbeaten challenger Kell Brook know in an interview that he doesn’t have any reason to stress out about Alexander not fighting him next because he does plan on doing that as soon as his injured right bicep muscle heals.

Brook got bent out of shape recently in hearing the news that Floyd Mayweather Jr. was interested in facing Alexander on May 4th. Mayweather made a simple tweet, and that was enough to get Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn stressed out in a major way without Alexander having said a word himself.

Kell Brook: I want a tune-up if the Alexander fight is moved to May

brook122By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) says he’s going to ask the International Boxing Federation for permission to take a tune-up bout if his title challenge against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) gets pushed to May. Brook is concerned about getting rusty while he’s waiting for the fight to happen, so he wants to get a tune-up bout to stay sharp.

Brook said to BoxNation.com “If the fight against Alexander is moved to May then it is too long, because I am ready to go. If that is true I would like to ask the IBF if I can have a ten round warm up to get all this frustration out. I have been training for 13 weeks for the fight of my life and even had a nutritionist living with me in a hotel.”

Kell Brook: My next fight is going to be with or without Alexander

brook334By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten welterweight Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) was bellyaching something fierce on Steve Bunce’s boxing program earlier today about the possibility that his fight with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) could go out the window if Alexander decides to take a HUGE money fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. next instead of facing him.

Brook sounded like he was really upset during the interview, but apparently his promoter Eddie Hearn did a good job of getting him to relax a little by telling him that Alexander will end up getting stripped of his International Boxing Federation 147 lb. title if he faces Mayweather.

Hearn: I’ll fight tooth and nail for Brook’s title shot against Alexander

hearn23By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is all bent out of shape today about the news that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. may face IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in a unification bout on May 4th instead of Alexander defending his IBF strap against his #1 IBF challenger Kell Brook, who Hearn promotes. Hearn says he’s going to fight hard to make sure Brook gets his title shot.

Hearn said on his twitter “We will fight tooth and nail for @SpecialKBrook… We questioned the injury and now we await news from @GoldenBoy Boxing which, given the news they are looking to enter the UK promoting market, should be interesting. We have a signed contract to fight Devon Alexander for the IBF Title.

Kell Brook: I’m feeling gutted right now

brook45453By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated welterweight Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) got some bad news earlier today about IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) suffering a bicep injury that will delay their February 23rd fight.

Depending on how badly Alexander’s injury it is, we could be looking at the fight being delayed many months, especially if it’s a torn bicep like then one former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto suffered on two occasions.

Brook said on his twitter “Can’t put into words how gutted I am.”
