IBF won’t sanction Victor Ortiz vs. Carlos Molina fight

ortiz564By Allan Fox: The International Boxing Federation has refused to sanction the December 14th fight between IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) an former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael. The fight is now off the card.

The Ortiz-Molina match-up was supposed to be a part of the Showtime pay-per-view card headlined by WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner defending his title against Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Rios: Molina shouldn’t show respect to Victor Ortiz

ortiz45By Dan Ambrose: Brandon Rios has some advice for how IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) can beat Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) in their fight on December 14th at the MGM Grand, in Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Rios says Molina should dog Ortiz by trash talking him in the build up to the fight and intimidate him to the point where he’s lost the fight mentally before he’s even entered the ring.

Rios thinks that Ortiz doesn’t have his mind in the fight game, and that he’s more concerned with becoming a movie star than a good fighter.

Prediction on Golden Boys future plans

broner999Golden Boy promotions last grand event “The One” didn’t live up to hype and the action didn’t play as we expected. Although others may have different opinions, that’s what I thought of the event. Golden Boy had yet to release news regarding their future events and they surprised me and I’m sure many hardcore boxing fans with 2 stacked cards for December of this year.

December 7th will be featuring a co main event that  gave me butterflies and is a fight I’ve been anticipating for months now. Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s Vs Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) for the WBA interim title.

Like many I was hoping that fight would have been put on “The One” rather than Carlos Molina vs Ishe Smith but what’s happened has happened. But that fight could be a fight of the year due to Trout and Lara’s slick style of fighting. And I was also amused by the twitter trash talk between the two.

Khan vs. Alexander & Judah vs. Malignaggi possible for December 7th

malig77By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is hoping to put together a double-header between Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander, and Zab Judah vs. Paulie Malignaggi on December 7th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to RingTV.

There’s also the possibility that former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz could be on the card against an opponent still to be determined if Schaefer can persuade Ortiz to agree to fighting on that date. Ortiz hasn’t fought since June of 2012 due to a broken jaw.

Schafer said to RingTV “Zab Judah against Paulie Malignaggi…we will have to see if that could be done…Zab’s goal is to get another big fight

Victor Ortiz vs. Alfonso Gomez possible for September on Arreola-Mitchell card

ortiz33By Allan Fox: There’s talk of former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) facing 32-year-old former two-time title challenger Alfonso Gomez (23-6-2, 12 KO’s) in September on the same card as the heavyweight match-up between Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell, according to Steve Kim.

The date Golden Boy Promotions is looking at is September 6th or 14th.

Matching Ortiz-Gomez with Arreola-Mitchell makes a lot of sense because an Arreola vs. Mitchell fight card would likely not attract a lot of attention unless it’s paired with a good undercard name like Ortiz. I can’t say the Ortiz vs. Gomez fight is a good one, not now at least. It might have been a good fight 2 or 3 years ago when Gomez was fighting a little better.

Victor Ortiz to make ring return in September

ortiz43By Allan Fox: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) will make his ring return in two months in September, according to his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. Schaefer says he’ll be announcing the 26-year-old Ortiz’s comeback within a week.

Ortiz hasn’t been able to fight ever since suffering a broken jaw in his fight against Josesito Lopez last year in June. It was an especially bad breakage, as Ortiz had his jaw broken in two places.

Who’s next for Kell Brook?

brook6666By Rob Mack: Kell Brook (30-0, 20ko’s) is coming off the back of an impressive beating of American fringe contender Carson Jones (35-10, 25ko’s). Following the victory, Brook’s outspoken promoter Eddie Hearn has said that he has a “big fight” planned in September for ‘the special one’, and this has led to mass speculation about the unnamed opponent.

The first name to consider, a name on every British fan’s list, is that of Amir Khan (28-3, 19ko’s). Both Khan and Brook have made it clear in the past that neither fighter care for the other and this grudge match has been long overdue.

Robert Guerrero wants Victor Ortiz next

ortiz4By Allan Fox: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) says he wants to face former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) next if he’s open to taking the fight. Guerrero is hoping to use a victory over the inactive Ortiz to catapult him to another shot against Floyd Mayweather Jr. or a fight against one of the other world champions at 147.

The chances of Guerrero ever getting another fight against Mayweather are less than zero. Guerrero had his shot, he lost, and the fight didn’t bring in big bank for Mayweather. It’s over for Guerrero as far as Mayweather goes.

Malignaggi: “The Problem’s” problem

broner33455By Donald Crisp: After many weeks of non-stop trash-talk between Paulie Malignaggi and Adrien “The Problem” Broner, the fight that many have been anticipating, if for nothing else just to see the fireworks unfold, ended leaving us with more questions than it answered.  Most of the questions have to do with Adrien Broner’s merits:  How good is he?  Did he prove anything? Did this fight help or hurt him?  And what about Paulie – if Adrien Broner is as good as he (and/or we) thinks, does that mean Paulie is still a legitimate contender?

Both men made promises in their pre-fight bashing:  Broner promised to knock Malignaggi out; Malignaggi promised to expose Broner and defeat him.  Neither of them walked the talk, but who came closer?

Schaefer wants Victor Ortiz vs. Shane Mosley in late summer

ortiz4By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is going to be playing it safe with former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) by putting him in with 41-year-old Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) in the late summer rather than letting Ortiz fight Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, who is really itching for a fight with Ortiz.

You can’t blame Schaefer for wanting to take it easy with Ortiz. He’s lost his last two fights and is coming off of a 9th round stoppage loss to Josesito Lopez last year in June in a fight where Ortiz suffered a broken jaw and ended up quitting on his stool.
