Prediction on Golden Boys future plans

broner999Golden Boy promotions last grand event “The One” didn’t live up to hype and the action didn’t play as we expected. Although others may have different opinions, that’s what I thought of the event. Golden Boy had yet to release news regarding their future events and they surprised me and I’m sure many hardcore boxing fans with 2 stacked cards for December of this year.

December 7th will be featuring a co main event that  gave me butterflies and is a fight I’ve been anticipating for months now. Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s Vs Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) for the WBA interim title.

Like many I was hoping that fight would have been put on “The One” rather than Carlos Molina vs Ishe Smith but what’s happened has happened. But that fight could be a fight of the year due to Trout and Lara’s slick style of fighting. And I was also amused by the twitter trash talk between the two.

Then the next card which is even better but still not PPV worthy in my opinion, is Adrien Broner (27-0 22KO’s) vs Marcos Maidana (34-3 31 KO’s) featuring the return of former welterweight titlist Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) who will be challenging newly crowned IBF titlist Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) who outpointed Ishe Smith last month.

Then we have hard hitting Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) facing off against Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) who upset Andre Berto in July by a 12th round knockout. Another potentially good match up will be Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) set to face Jorge Melendez (27-3-1, 26 KO’s) which will add another fight in the Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry. But the point of this article was too point out what caught my eye.

Victor Ortiz after a 2 fight lose streak and getting his jaw broken while taking a year off and now returning with a title shot? It seems to me Golden Boy has a well thought out plan. Here’s my analysis, Victor Ortiz was orginally supposed to fight Saul Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) on September 15 of last year after his tune up bout with Josesito Lopez in which he was suppose to win.

Well Mr. Lopez crushed Golden Boys plans and was penciled to move up in weight to 154 to face off against Alvarez for his WBC title. In my opinion that fight was outrageous having a natural light welterweight move up 2 weight classes to get crushed. But now that Saul Alvarez has lost both his titles, it seems Golden Boy is favoring Victor Ortiz by giving him an immediate title shot to win and then will set Ortiz and Canelo to fight each other in the future. This is just a prediction and that is if Carlos Molina doesn’t crush Golden Boys plans again. Let me know what you guys think.
