Fury: Price’s loss is Maloney’s fault for all the soft match-making he did for him

price22By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tyson Fury is putting David Price’s loss at the hands of American Tony Thompson squarely on the shoulders of Price’s promoter Frank Maloney, blaming him for all the soft match-making he’s done for Price by making him against a series of 40-year-olds that did little to prepare the 6’8” Price for the reality that he had to face against the experienced 6’5” Thompson last Saturday night.

Fury told ESPN “Tony Thompson was going to get blown away, and I thought it was going to be a good fight between me and David, and I was going to do it, but Tony Thompson took it away from me…he [Price] only has one person to blame, and that’s Frank Maloney because if he [Price] had the [boxing] education I had, he wouldn’t be in this situation he is in today. If you look at who he’s fought in his previous fights, he’s fought Audley Harrison, Matt Skelton and Tony Thompson. They’re all in their 40s, and he’s learned nothing; he’s had no experience beforehand. I was a disaster waiting to happen, but now he can go back to the drawing board and regroup.

Price wants Thompson rematch; willing to fight him in U.S

price444By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) has had time to talk it over with his promoter Frank Maloney, and he’s decided that he would like a rematch against American Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s). Price is even willing to travel to the United States to fight Thompson in his home country in order to get the fight.

Price was knocked out in the 2nd round last Saturday night in a huge upset in Liverpool, UK. Maloney picked out the 41-year-old Thompson, and it was supposed to be an easy fight against an aging heavyweight who looked to be on his last legs. But as it turns out, even this faded version of Thompson was more than good enough to beat the heavily hyped but still unproven 6’8’ Price.

David Price pays the “PRICE” for lack of defense

price73By Gari Jones: Since his shock defeat to Tony Thompson (W37, KO25, L3, D0) on Saturday, David Price (W15, KO13, L1, D0) has been rather quiet. Though question marks are being raised over his chin, I agree with him that long term this loss won’t do much to his prospects providing he gets back to winning ways in his next fight. It neither a lack of power nor his chin, it was Price’s defense that let him down.

The 1st round of that fight was nothing to shout about, both fighters just feeling each other out and looking to establish some rhythm. The final 30 seconds did offer some action, both fighters getting each other in the corner and trading a few glancing blow but nothing more.

Fury with excuse to bypass Pulev fight now by facing Tony Thompson

thompson32By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) may have found the perfect excuse to get out of what will be a dangerous fight for him against Kubrat Pulev later on in 2013 in an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout.

The thing that has changed this for Fury, and perhaps given him the excuse to get out of facing Pulev, is the news of 41-year-old Tony Thompson destroying David Price by a 2nd round last Saturday night. Thompson beat what many boxing fans feel is the best heavyweight in the UK, and beat him with ease.

Fury has since come out of the woodwork to say he wants to fight Thompson after Fury’s April 20th fight against former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, New York, USA.

Thompson: Price’s people forgot that I have good power too

price555By Scott Gilfoid: The triumph American heavyweight Tony Thompson thinks David Price’s team made a huge mistake by focusing on his age [41] and not looking closely enough at his knockout record when picking him out as an opponent for Price to fight last Saturday night.

Thompson believes Price’s team didn’t realize how hard he can punch, and they made a big mistake of agreeing to fight him instead of choosing to continue to fight weak-punching fluff opponent. The mistake ended up costing Price big time with him getting knocked out in the 2nd round in front of his own loyal British fans at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

“Everyone was talking about his [Price] power, but I have 24, now 25 motherf***** who says I have power.

Thompson: I want Tyson Fury next in the U.S

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) says he wants the trash talking Brit Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) next, but it’s going to have to be in the United States unless Fury’s promoter wants to give him a lot of money to fly over to the UK and fight him.

Thompson feels he was underpaid to the extreme for coming over to the UK to fight David Price last Saturday night, and he doesn’t want that to happen again.

Fury: Thompson is getting it from me for knocking out Price

price#2By Scott Gilfoid: It seems that Tyson Fury’s nationalist pride is showing itself after American Tony Thompson knocked out Britain’s David Price in the 2nd round last Saturday night in Liverpool, England.

Thompson was supposed to be the sacrificial lamb dragged in from America for Price to look good against, but Thompson flipped the scrip against the novice and exposed his glass ear by bopping him a good one with a right hand that ended the fight.

Fury said on his twitter “I’m gonna spank this little b*** Tony Thompson all around the ring! Granddaddy is getting it for KOing Price!! I’ll get him for u @davidprice. Thompson is old as s*** & been KO’d two times! Ill KO him after Cunningham. Tony Thompson where are you? You’re getting it after your mate Cunningham along with any other American heavyweight.”

Price not sure if he’ll face Thompson again

price5By Scott Gilfoid: David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is still debating right now whether he should look to avenge his 2nd round knockout loss to Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) or just walk away and avoid a potentially dangerous confrontation. Price says he’ll be meeting with his promoter Frank Maloney next week to decide which direction they should go in.

Price said at the post-fight press conference “It’s just one of those things. It wasn’t that big of a shot. It’s where it caught me. I have to regroup. I didn’t take a sustained beating. We’re still going to become a world champion. We’re not in a bad position. I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again. It was a freak thing. Of course, when someone beats you, you want to get it right. We’ll have a chat next week to see what’s happening. We’ll decide what’s best moving forward.”

Thompson wants Fury next

price50By Scott Gilfoid: Having just knocked out Britain’s best heavyweight in David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) in the 2nd round earlier tonight in Liverpool, England, 41-year-old Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) is now targeting #4 WBC British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) to see if he can make a clean sweep of the UK.

If Thompson beats Fury, then there pretty much won’t be anyone left for him to fight in the UK because David Haye on shut down, and just looking for a fight against the Klitschkos before retiring.

A Thompson vs. Fury fight is a natural for both fighters right now because it’ll give Fury a chance to show that he’s a better fighter than Price by beating Thompson. At the same time, it’ll give Thompson a chance to get another nice payday while looking to beat another giant British heavyweight. No one gave Thompson any chance at beating Price.
