Michael Jennings wants a rematch with Kell Brook

By Sean McDaniel: Former British welterweight champion Michael Jennings (36-3, 17 KO’s) wants a rematch with undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) after being trounced by Brook in a one-sided 5th round TKO on September 11th. Jennings, 33, was never even remotely competitive in the fight, as he looked as timid as he had in his 5th round blowout loss against Miguel Cotto a year earlier in February 2009.

Kell Brook vs. Michael Jennings prediction

Image: Kell Brook vs. Michael Jennings predictionBy William Mackay: The match-up between unbeaten British welterweight champion Kell Brook (21-0, 14 KO’s) and Michael Jennings (36-2, 17 KO’s) is one of the least interesting fights on the Magnificent Seven fight card for this Saturday night at the LG Arena, Birmingham. Brook, 24, has way too much talent for the 33-year-old Jennings in this fight, and I can’t see this fight going for more than five or six rounds at best, and that’s if Brook takes it easy on Jennings and holds him up for that long to get rounds in. Jennings is a good local fighter, but he’s no way in the same class as Brook and it’s really a disappointment that he’s the opponent for Brook in this fight.

European Middleweight Title:

Matthew Macklin (26-2 18KO’s) vs. Darren Barker (22-0 14KO’s)

The main event of the evening is the much anticipated European middleweight title fight between Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker. The pair were scheduled to meet in the past, but Macklin instead faced Amin Asikainen for the then vacant European crown. Barker instead won the vacant British title, and then when Macklin gave up the European title due to an injury, Barker won the challenge against Affif Belgecham. Now the pair will finally meet in in what is being tipped as the biggest domestic fight since Eubank vs Benn (also at middleweight).

Image: Warren thinks “Khan has taken an easy fight” - [with Malignaggi compared to Mitchell-Katsidis] – NewsBy William Mackay: Promoter Frank Warren believes that World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) has the easier fight against former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) compared to his unbeaten fighter Kevin Mitchell (31-0, 23 KO’s), who will be facing WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (26-2, 21 KO’s) on the same night on May 15th, according to Boxrec. Warren used to promote Khan until recently when Khan switched over to Golden Boy Promotions. Warren says “Malignaggi is an easy fight for Amir while Kevin has taken a hard one. Amir is fighting in front of 5000 while Kevin [Mitchell] will have 20,000.”

Kell Brook – Time to Join the Elite Class?

brook5655645By Richard Gough: For me, the most disappointing news of the last week or so is the postponement of the Kell Brook – Michael Jennings bout due to illness on Kell’s part. We were due to see whether the much touted Kell Brook is good enough to step up to the world level.
