Brook Wants Jennings; Hamed sees Little In Common With Khan – News
By William Mackay: After an impressive 3rd round TKO defeat of Michal Lomax last Saturday night, British welterweight champion Kell Brook (20-0, 13 KO’s) is now aiming for former BBBofC welterweight champion Michael Jennings (35-2, 17 KO’s) next. A victory over the 31-year-old Jennings would be a good victory for Brook to add to his growing collection of wins since turning pro five years ago in 2004.
News – Fury Wants Bout With McDermott; Jennings vs. Thompson On Friday
By William Mackay: Undefeated knockout artist Tyson Fury (5-0, 5 KOs) is eyeing a heavyweight clash with big John McDermott after Fury completes his next fight on May 23rd against a still to be determined opponent. Fury, 6’8”, and still only 20-years-old, would be taking a significant step up in class in facing the powerful and tough McDermott. Fury, however, isn’t all the impressed with McDermott’s last fight, a 12-round split decision loss to Danny Williams, saying “It was like watching two women fighting in the street with all the slapping and hugging.”
Will Jennings Ever Fight For a Major Title Again?
By Dan Ambrose: After toiling for 10 long years as a professional fighter, Michael Jennings (34-2, 16 KOs) finally got his big chance two weeks again in an attempt at fighting for the vacant WBO welterweight title against Miguel Cotto (33-1, 27 KOs) at Madison Square Garden, in New York. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as Jennings would like for them to and he ultimately was stopped quite easily in a 5th round TKO loss to Cotto.
Chavez Jr. vs. Cuello on March 28th; Did Jennings Give 100% Against Cotto?
By Manuel Perez: Undefeated light middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (38-0, 29 KOs) will face unbeaten Argentinean Luciano Leonel Cuello (23-0, 10 KOs) on March 28th in Tijuana, Baja California, for the vacant WBO Latino light middleweight title. Chavez, 23, is making a slightly bigger step up from some of the softer opponents that he’s been facing thus far in his six year pro career. Without the luxury of any kind of amateur career to speak of, Chavez Jr. is taking the slow approach to his pro career building up slowly against better fighters in small increments rather than leaps and bounds.
Pavlik and Cotto Proved Little
By Dave Lahr: I’m still trying to figure out what either Miguel Cotto and Kelly Pavlik accomplished this past weekend in beating the poor opposition that they were put in with. 10 years ago, names like Marco Antonio Rubio and Michael Jennings would have never been in the position to challenge for a title against quality fighters like Pavlik and Cotto, yet this weekend we had to suffer through both of these bouts which ended in one-sided knockouts.
Jennings Says He Won’t Retire, But Maybe He Should
By Michael Lieberman: After watching Michael Jennings (34-2, 16) get destroyed by Miguel Cotto (33-1, 27 KOs) last night in the 5th round at Madison Square Garden, the big question is should Jennings hang up the gloves? Jennings says he won’t retire, saying “”I want to keep going and fight for different things, whether it be a British title or a different title.”
Cotto vs. Hatton Next?
By Scott Gilfoid: Predictably, Miguel (33-1, 27 KOs) made a mess of Michael Jennings’ (34-2, 16) farfetched dream of winning the vacant WBO welterweight title by wiping him out in a 5th round knockout. Jennings tried the best he could but he had no weapons to use against the powerful shots from Cotto. Whereas Cotto was laying waste to Jennings with sledgehammer left hooks, Jennings was only able to fire back with pesky jabs. As you can guess, Jennings stood no chance in the fight and was beaten down in five lop-sided rounds.
Cotto Defeats Jennings: Looking at Hatton or Pacquiao
by William Mackay: Former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (33-1, 27 KOs) recaptured a title on Saturday night in defeating Michael Jennings (34-2, 16 KOs) by a 5th round TKO to capture the vacant WBO welterweight title at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Jennings, fighting for his first time out of the UK, was much weaker than Cotto and did little other than jab and move for much of the fight. His jabs had little effect on Cotto, who took them and kept on applying pressure.
