Kell Brook sees himself making a statement against Carson Jones on July 13th

brook123By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be taking his career backwards to face Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) on July 13th to try and clear up the controversy from his last fight with the American last year in July in Sheffield. Brook, #1 IBF, #8 WBO, won that fight by a controversial 12 round majority decision, but many boxing fans think Jones did more than enough to deserve at least a draw out of the fight, if not an outright win.

Jones made a mess of Brook’s nose and gave him a real thrashing in the last six rounds of the fight. In the 12th, Jones had Brook out on his feet and within a couple of punches of being knocked out. However, the referee stopped the action right at that moment to give Jones a lengthy warning for something, and this allowed Brook enough time to gather himself and make it out of the round without getting knocked out.

Kell Brook faces Carson Jones on 7/13 in UK

brook42by Scott Gilfoid: #7 WBO, welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) faces Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) on July 13th in a fight that should tell us what we need to know about the talent and the destiny of the 27-year-old Brook when he faces Jones at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.

Brook got a gift 12 round majority decision over Jones last year in July. After the fight, Brook was blabbering a mile a minute about excuse about not being in the best of shape.

That excuse can only be used once, and if he tries that one after the rematch with Jones in July, I don’t see anyone buying it, especially with Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn both saying his stamina problem is officially fixed.

Khan not surprised Kell Brook pulled out of fight with Alexander

brook323552By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan says he’s not surprised that welterweight Kell Brook pulled out of his scheduled fight with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander complaining of an injury. It was the second time that Brook had suffered an injury during the training camp, and that was the final straw as far as Alexander goes because he chose to move on and fight Lee Purdy instead.

Khan said to thesun.co.uk “I thought it was a tough fight for him [Brook] to take, and he’s not one of those guys who would take a tough fight…I think the reason he’s calling me out because he wants a big payday.”

Who knows what the deal is with Brook, but it’s 100 percent that he blew his big chance against Alexander by getting injured twice in training camp. Now, Alexander is going to have to get some wins under his belt and work his way back to get another chance at a title shot.

He has a little bit of unfinished business and I want to shape his tools up. He’s been out since October. I’m trying to make the Julio Diaz fight for September at the Sheffield Arena. I believe he’s a credible opponent for Kell Brook.

Devon Alexander to fight on May 18th with or without Kell Brook

alexander4334By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) better hope his injured foot has a miraculous recovery because of it’s not healed by May 18th in time for his title challenge against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s), then Brook may end up waiting an awful long time before he gets another shot at the title.

Alexander’s promoter at Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer is saying that Alexander will be fighting on May 18th against somebody. If it’s Brook, then it’s all good, but if he can’t make it to the fight due to his aching feet then that’s on him.

Alexander will fight somebody else and Brook will either have to wait another four to six months for another chance or he’ll have to look elsewhere for another welterweight champion to fight.

Alexander vs. Brook: Alexander’s experience or Brook’s strength?

brook1By Craig Hilton: There has been a great deal of intrigue and speculation concerning the massive world title fight between IBF world title holder, Devon Alexander (25-1), and UK superstar Kell Brook (29-0) on 18/05/2013 at The Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Does Devon Alexander have too much experience? Does Brook have too much power?

The stakes are high: a win for Alexander would put the wheels in motion for the big-money fight he craves with Floyd Mayweather Junior (43-0); a win for Brook would establish him in the USA, creating lucrative opportunities for his career. I’d like to highlight some of the key factors that may determine the outcome of this huge and career-defining fight.

Alexander hoping to win over UK fans by beating Kell Brook on May 18th

alexander342By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) believes he can siphon off the British fans by beating their hero unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) on May 18th in their fight at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Alexander isn’t one of those angry fighters that have issues with the fans of his opponents.

He prefers to win over the fans of his opponents by looking so good in beating them that their fans just naturally come over to him. He’s humble and he doesn’t gloat after he dominates his opponent, and I don’t expect that to change on May 18th when he faces Brook.

Alexander said on his social media site: “To all my UK fans and non UK fans after I beat Kell you will be a fan #Guarantee.”

Fighters scared of losing their “0” or others scared to compete against them?

brook5By Jamie Hesford: There was a time when mandatory challenger meant something. These days fighters find ways to worm their way out of the big fights to protect their unbeaten record. We see time and time again the best avoiding each other.

It is damaging for the sport and its rare nowadays that we see an even fight. Only on special occasions do we see a spectacle that involves two world title holders battle it out to unify the division. Main events on cards are no longer the fight of the night because it usually features a heavy favorite beating up a lesser opponent. Fights like Bernard Hopkins v Tavoris Cloud and Tim Bradley v Manny Pacquiao do not happen often enough. But who is to blame? The boxer with the “0” or the challenger?
