Khan not surprised Kell Brook pulled out of fight with Alexander

brook323552By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan says he’s not surprised that welterweight Kell Brook pulled out of his scheduled fight with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander complaining of an injury. It was the second time that Brook had suffered an injury during the training camp, and that was the final straw as far as Alexander goes because he chose to move on and fight Lee Purdy instead.

Khan said to thesun.co.uk “I thought it was a tough fight for him [Brook] to take, and he’s not one of those guys who would take a tough fight…I think the reason he’s calling me out because he wants a big payday.”

Who knows what the deal is with Brook, but it’s 100 percent that he blew his big chance against Alexander by getting injured twice in training camp. Now, Alexander is going to have to get some wins under his belt and work his way back to get another chance at a title shot.

Alexander needs to take his feet and ankles or something when he trains because he can’t keep suffering these injuries to his lower extremities if he wants to have a future in the sport. I can just see Brook getting another title shot in a year or two and then blowing it with another foot or ankle injury.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is putting the training wheels back on him by looking to put him back in with Carson Jones in July, and then provided he wins that fight without controversy like last time they fought, Hearn wants to match Brook against 33-year-old Julio Diaz in September.

Yeah, the same Diaz that Khan recently got a gift 12 round decision against in London. Hearn figures that if Brook beats Diaz easier than Khan did, it’ll give boxing fans the impression that he’s the top guy in the UK. I’ll believe it when I see it. I can see both Jones and Diaz beating Brook, but I think these guys are pretty much even with him in terms of his level.
