Kell Brook injured again, fight with Alexander up in the air

brook2323By Scott Gilfoid: Once again, British welterweight Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) has suffered another injury to his lower extremities that’s putting his title shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s).

Previously, Brook hurt his ankle causing his fight with Alexander to be postponed until February. Then it was Alexander’s turn with injuring his left bicep, making it necessary for their fight to be postponed until May 18th.

Now Brook has injured his foot and there’s a chance that the fight will need to be postponed for a third time.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said to RingTV “It is not clear whether he is going to be able to fight or now. He is going to go see a specialist on Monday.”

Brook recently has a “stress fracture” for one of his feet. Which one is still unclear, although hardly matters which one. It’s bad news either way.

If the fight does have to be postponed yet again, I think the International Boxing Federation should just install the next highest ranking contender into Brook’s slot so that Alexander can get his title defense over with because he can’t be waiting his entire life trying to defend his title against the constantly injured Brook.

I don’t know what the guy is doing for him to keep suffering injuries to his lower body parts but I think the IBF needs to tell him to get back in line until he can train without getting constantly injured because Alexander would like to continue his career instead of being stuck in a sort of permanent paralysis caused by Brook’s aches and pains.

The night highest contender is #3 IBF Jan Zaveck. I think the IBF needs to have him get the shot against Alexander on May 18th, while Brook gets pushed down a notch. If Brook can stay injury free then he should get another crack at the time, but I think there needs to be a limit for how many times his injuries cause delays to fights.
