Golovkin wants Andre Ward in 2013

golovkin3By Allan Fox: With the prospects dim in getting a big fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez in 2013, WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) is turning his sights towards the super middleweight division. Golovkin reportedly wants to fight WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward in 2013, as soon as Ward’s injured right shoulder heals up from surgery.

The 5’10” Golovkin would have to move up in weight to 168 lbs for the fight to happen in that Ward likely won’t be interested in boiling down to 160 to fight Golovkin.

This would definitely be Golovkin’s biggest fight of his career thus far, and it’s highly possible that Ward will be interested in that fight. He was going to fight Kelly Pavlik but their fight was cancelled on the account of Ward suffering an injury to his shoulder in training camp.

Golovkin would present problems for Canelo Alvarez

golovkin5By Dan Ambrose: If Golden Boy Promotions are willing to take a risk for their fighter WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) then they might want to consider putting him in with WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Gokovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) to see what Canelo is made of.

Last night, Golovkin chased a reluctant Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) around the ring for seven rounds, leaving him a bloody and battered fighter by the time his training team threw in the towel. And that was with Rosado running for entire fight.

Rosado wasn’t the smaller man against Golovkin

golovkin201By Allan Fox: Much has been made about WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) facing a junior middleweight in Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) last night in Madison Square Garden, New York.

Some fans mistakenly feel that because the 6’0” Rosado had been fighting at junior middleweight during his career that meant he was smaller than the 5’10” Golovkin in height and weight. However, it you looked at the fight last night you’ll see immediately that Rosado not only was the taller fighter but he also looked like the heavier fighter as well.

Boxing fans don’t realize that some fighters like to fight at weights smaller than their size so that they can gain an advantage from taking on the smaller fighters. These guys dehydrate to make weight and then put the water weight back on after the weigh-in.

Golovkin stops Rosado in 7th in blood bath

golovkin12By Jim Dower: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) successfully defended his title on Saturday night in stopping a game Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) in the 7th round at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The fight was halted when Rosado’s corner threw in the towel to save Rosado, who was bleeding badly from his left eye and also bleeding from his nose. Rosado had stopped fighting back and was just running.

Rosado had talked about wanting to come and slug with Golovkin but instead of slugging, Rosado chose to run for the entire fight. He was able to land an occasional good shot, but for the most part Rosado was just moving punching bag.

Golovkin dominates Rosado; Garcia defeats Salido

golovkin200By Jim Dower: In the main event on Saturday night, Undefeated #1 WBO Miguel “Mikey” Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) triumphed over WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27 KO’s), beating him by an eight round technical decision in a four knockdown performance at Madison Square Garden. Garcia suffered a broken nose from a head clash in the 8th, and it looked like his trainer/brother Robert Garcia was able to get the fight to be stopped and go to the cards.

Having the fight go to the cards no doubt saved Garcia from potentially taking a lot of punishment to the nose in the remaining four rounds of the fight. But perhaps more than that, it saved Garcia from taking punishment period considering Salido was starting to land more of his own power shots.

The judges scored the fight 79-70, 79-69, 79-69, all for Garcia. Salido was knocked down twice in the 1st round from left hooks by Garcia. Salido was walking into the shots and getting dropped. In the 3rd, Garcia knocked Salido down with a perfect right uppercut to the head that he never saw coming while they were in close.

Golovkin will look to put Rosado out of his misery early on Saturday

golovkinmedia-11By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) has been polite with Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) all week long and showing excellent manners but on Saturday night things are going to change rapidly when Golovkin shows his dark side and looks to obliterate Rosado on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York. It’s not personal with Golovkin; it’s just business.

Golovkin needs to get Rosado out of there ring quickly in this fight and he can’t afford to let the fight go into later rounds so that Rosado can make it a messy fight.

Rosado is going to probably make it easy for Golovkin by looking to slug with him. That seems to be Rosado’s game plan judging by his comments. He’s been talking about how he’s going to dominate Golovkin and stop him by the 9th round, but that can’t happen unless Rosado takes the fight to Golovkin.

Golovkin: Rosado will be a tough fight for me

golovkinmedia-3By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) doesn’t see himself having an easy fight on Saturday night against his junior middleweight challenger Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden, in New York. Rosado is moving up in weight from the 154 pound division for this fight and he’s going to try and do what other fighters have failed to do and that’s beat the hard hitting Golovkin.

Golovkin said to RingTV “I think it’s a difficult fight for us.”

Golovkin has been letting his trainer Abel Sanchez do all the talking for him in terms of predictions, as Sanchez doesn’t seen the brawling Rosado lasting longer than the 3rd round on Saturday night. Golovkin has been dominating super middleweights and light heavyweights in sparring for this fight, so it’s going to be tough for a career junior middleweight fighter like Rosado, with his slugging style of fighting, to be able to stand in and trade with the harder hitting Golovkin.

Golovkin in a win-win situation even if he struggles to beat Rosado

golovkinmedia-17By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) is in a good position to make out well against Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) this Saturday night even if he struggles to beat him. Right now Golovkin can’t get any of the big names in the division to fight him.

His trainer Abel Sanchez believes that’s because Golovkin is considered too dangerous for the better known guys to take a chance and fight him, but if he struggles to beat Rosado then it could open the door for some bigger fights.

Sanchez said to RingTV “If that happens [Golovkin struggles], if Rosado is able to take Golovkin rounds…maybe we’ll get the other middleweight champions to take a chance on him.”

Rosado predicting 9th round TKO of Golovkin

k2gggtony011513nyc(Photo credit/K2) By Dan Ambrose: Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) will be moving up in weight this Saturday night to fight for the WBA middleweight world title against Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York. Rosado is the undercard but he’s convinced he’ll stop the Kazakhstan born Golovkin in the 9th round and he doesn’t see it even be close. Rosado has seen a lot of Golovkin and he feels it’s an easy fight for him.

Speaking with Greg Leon at boxingtalk.com, Rosado said “I want to dominate him. I think we can get a stoppage in the later rounds, about the 9th round.”

Perhaps more boxing fans would buy into what Rosado is saying if he’d at least say it was going to be a competitive fight and that he’d maybe grit out a decision or try to wear Golovkin down to stop him late.
