Golovkin in a win-win situation even if he struggles to beat Rosado

golovkinmedia-17By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) is in a good position to make out well against Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) this Saturday night even if he struggles to beat him. Right now Golovkin can’t get any of the big names in the division to fight him.

His trainer Abel Sanchez believes that’s because Golovkin is considered too dangerous for the better known guys to take a chance and fight him, but if he struggles to beat Rosado then it could open the door for some bigger fights.

Sanchez said to RingTV “If that happens [Golovkin struggles], if Rosado is able to take Golovkin rounds…maybe we’ll get the other middleweight champions to take a chance on him.”

I think it’s possible Golovkin could get middleweight champions Daniel Geale and Sergio Martinez to possible fight him, but I don’t see WBO champion Peter Quillin agree to fight Golovkin no matter how much he struggles against Rosado.

I don’t think Golovkin will have any problems with Rosado, but if he does it still won’t get Quillin and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions to agree to fight Golovkin. The skill difference between Golokvin and Quillin is just too dramatic, and when you throw in Golovkin’s big power into the mix, it would be way too much for the flawed Quillin. I don’t see him agreeing and definitely not Golden Boy. They obviously want to keep Quillin as their champion and if he fights Golovkin it’ll be all over.

Rosado is going to fight the wrong fight on Saturday by going right after Golovkin from the 1st round to try and beat him at his own game. That’s going to result in Rosado getting taken out pretty quickly in this fight. I’d be surprised if he can get past the 3rd round.

Golokin’s promoters at K2 would like to match him against contender Matthew Macklin next if they can get him to agree to take the fight. It might not be a doable fight because Macklin is considered one of the candidates for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s next fight this year, and he’s probably not going to want to take less money and arguably more danger to fight Golovkin.
