Hughie Fury or David Price next for Joseph Parker

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker’s next fight on April 8 is down to Hughie Fury or David Price. Team Parker would like to fight David Haye, but he’s opted instead to take a fight against cruiserweight Tony Bellew on March 4. However, Parker’s management is still interested potentially in a fight against Haye later on after Parker’s April 8 fight.

With Parker winning the vacant WBO title, he’s technically supposed to fight the No.1 contender in the WBO’s rankings next. Of course, the decision ultimately rests with the WBO if they want to push for that.

Joseph Parker vs. David Price possible for April 8

Image: Joseph Parker vs. David Price possible for April 8

By Jeff Aranow: #8 WBO David Price (21-3, 18 KOs) is being talked about as the WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker’s opponent for his maiden defense of his title April 8. In addition to the 33-year-old Price, unbeaten #6 WBO,#8 WBA, #9 IBF, #12 WBC Jarrell Miller is also under consideration by the promoters of the 24-year-old Parker. Parker reportedly would potentially take the fight with Price in the UK rather than in his home country of New Zealand.

Price would be a strange pick for the 6’4” Parker to be defending his WBO title against, because it was just several fights ago that Price was knocked out in the 2nd round by Erkan Teper in July 2015.

Joshua explains why he selected Molina over Price

joshua854

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight David Price was hoping to get a title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua for his next fight in December. Instead, Joshua surprised many boxing fans by opting to fight 34-year-old Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) instead on December 10 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Not long before Joshua made his decision to fight Molina next, news surfaced about an old sparring incident between Price and Joshua involving a knockdown of Joshua.

It was thought that Price only revealed the incident in an attempt to get a fight against Joshua. Joshua still chose to fight Molina #8 IBF next rather than Price (21-3, 18 KOs). A fight between Joshua and Price would have likely been the bigger fight due to Price being a more recognizable name in the UK than Molina, who is mostly known for his knockout losses to World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder last year and Chris Arreola in 2012.

Tony Thompson wants David Price third fight

thompson211

By Scott Gilfoid: 45-year-old former two-time heavyweight world title challenger Tony Thompson (40-7, 27 KOs) is interested in facing #11 WBO contender David Price (21-3, 18 KOs) in a third fight. Thompson already twice knocked out Price three years ago in 2013, and he’s willing to come over to the UK and do it once more. Thompson says that Price, 33, cannot move on until he avenges those two defeats, and he’s willing to give him a chance of doing just that.

Price has turned his sagging career around recently with consecutive wins over 2nd tier fighters Ivica Perkovic and Vaclav Pejsar in 2016. Those wins for Price came after he was whipped in two rounds by Erkan Teper last year in July 2015.

It’s unclear what happened to the 6’8” Price in his loss to Teper, because he never seemed to get untracked in that fight. Before his loss to Teper, Price had won four straight fights, albeit against lower level journeyman like opponents.

Price to Joshua: I’m coming to KO you on December 10

price5

By Scott Gilfoid: David Price says he’s ready to step in and knockout IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on December 10 in his next fight at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Joshua was hoping to fight former world champion Wladimir Klitschko on that date, but the fight remains in doubt given that the World Boxing Association hasn’t yet decided whether to sanction the Klitschko vs. Price fight as of yet.

We’re waiting to see if they will. The WBA was supposed to make their decision on Thursday, but they still haven’t said anything. It doesn’t look like it matters though, because it appears that Klitschko and former WBA heavyweight champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne will be facing each other on December 10 for the vacant WBA title in Hamburg, Germany.

That’s a good fight for both guys, and it gives the 40-year-old Wladimir a chance to capture the WBA title and use it as leverage to get a bigger cut of the revenue for a unification match against Joshua in 2017.

David Price sick, off Bellew-Flores card

price3

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (21-3, 18 KOs) is reportedly sick and won’t be able to fight on Saturday’s Tony Bellew vs. BJ Flores card at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the news on Monday in letting boxing fans know about it at the press conference.

Price, 33, was supposed to be fighting domestic level fighter Dave Allen in an eight round fight on the card. It was seen as a mismatch by many boxing fans, but there was still some curiosity about the fight due to Allen’s punching power and Price’s history of chin problems.

“One news I must give is David Price has come down with a virus over the weekend and won’t be on the bill, which is unfortunate for him as he continues his progression,” Hearn said during press conference today via ringtv.com.

David Price vs. Dave Allen possible for October 15

price12

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (21-3, 18 KO’s) blasted out journeyman Ivica Perkovic (22-31, 17 KOs) in two rounds last Saturday night in Germany on the undercard of the Juergen Braehmer vs. Nathan Cleverly card. Price now is talking about getting back inside the ring in the next two weeks against domestic level fighter Dave Allen (9-1-1, 6 KOs) for the undercard of Tony Bellew vs. BJ Flores card on October 15 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

It’s not the fight that the 6’8” Price wants. He’s eager to face unbeaten #1 IBF Joseph Parker in the near future so that he can earn a title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Price isn’t sure if the fight against Parker will happen though.

Announcements due this week for camp Sauerland

groves1111

By Gav Duthie: Eager to bounce back quickly from the disappointment of Jurgen Braehmer’s elbow injury and subsequent title defeat Kalle Sauerland is promising announcements for his British contingent David Price and George Groves.

David Price

Despite fighting only last night Kalle Sauerland let slip that Price is going to face fellow British prospect David Allen 9-1-1 (6), October 15 on the Tony Bellew v BJ Flores undercard. This would be only 2 weeks to the day between fights. Obviously Price means business but in reality he hardly broke a sweat last night against journeyman Ivica Perkovic stopping him in 2 rounds at the event in Germany. Price’s ability to beat guys at this level has never been in question and neither has his boxing talent but his chin and stamina have and at the very least Allen will ask some questions of these two attributes.

David Price vs. Ivica Perkovic results

price3

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight contender David Price (21-3, 18 KOs) picked up his second consecutive victory on Saturday night in stopping 42-year-old journeyman Ivica Perkovic (22-31, 17 KOs) in the 2nd round in Germany.

Price, 33, hurt Perkovic with a right-left combination to the midsection that caused him to wave his arm to the referee to have the fight halted. The referee Joerg Milke then stepped in and halted the fight at 2:10 of the 2nd round. It’s not surprising news that Price was able to beat Perkovic so easily, as this fight was never supposed to be competitive. It was just another confidence booster for Price, who needs all the confidence he can get after he was destroyed in two rounds by Erkan Teper in 2015.

Price knocked Perkovic down with a right uppercut followed by a left hook to the head in the 1st round. Perkovic looked badly hurt from the knockdown. Price probably could have knocked Perkovic out in the 1st round if he wanted to, but he wanted to take his time before putting him out of his misery.

David Price wants Parker, then Joshua

price1

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (20-3, 17 KOs) is hoping to get a fight against unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger Joseph Parker (20-0, 17 KOs) after Price takes care of business this Saturday night against 42-yer-old Ivica Perkovic (22-30, 17 KOs) in their six-round fight this Saturday night in Germany.

Price-Perkovic will be on the undercard of the Juergen Braehmer vs. Nathan Cleverly card. Price wants to beat Perkovic, and then fight the 24-year-old Parker next on November 26 to earn a title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. It’s possible that Price could get Parker if he doesn’t fight Joshua on November 26, but that’s a big IF, because there’s a chance that fight could happen if Joshua doesn’t fight Wlaimir Klitschko next for Tyson Fury’s WBA/WBO heavyweight titles if they get quickly stripped from him by the two sanctioning bodies. With Friday’s news of Fury allegedly testing positive for cocaine in VADA’s testing of him on September 22, he could wind up getting stripped of his titles.
