Hearn wants Joshua vs. Fury in November

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is a priority for his fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua later this year in November if the two of them win their next fights. Fury will be facing Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch on July 9 in Manchester, while Joshua could be fighting in June or July depending on Hearn’s ability to dig him up a suitable opponent for yet another PPV fight on Sky Box Office.

The fighter that Hearn DOESN’T WANT for Joshua right now is the hard hitting David Haye despite the keen interest that Haye is showing in that fight. Haye sees weakness in the slow-moving, bulky Joshua, and he feels he can exploit that weakness if given the chance.

David Haye: I really want to fight Anthony Joshua

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) worked Anthony Joshua’s fight last Saturday night for Sky Sports, and Haye saw nothing in his performance against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) for him to be afraid of him. In fact, Haye is now more motivated than ever to get Joshua inside the ring so that he can knock him the spark out.

Haye knows he won’t fight in the same way that Martin did with the way he was standing straight up. Haye would actually throw punches, fast punches, and he wouldn’t be stationary like Martin.

Anthony Joshua wants a big fight

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) says it’s possible that his next fight could be against either Tyson Fury or David Haye because he would face them both on the same night.

Joshua’s win over Charles Martin last Saturday night seems to have given Joshua a boost in confidence because he’s talking like he’s infallible now instead of someone who fought an inexperienced guy that made a mistake in how he fought him. Martin made a mistake in using the same passive game plan that many of Joshua’s third tier opposition have used against him, and unfortunately for Martin, he got the same results.

Hearn wants Joshua to fight on July 9 at Wembley Stadium

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn has plans for his fighter Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) to make his first defense of his IBF heavyweight title three months from now on July 9 at the huge Wembley Stadium in London, UK against an opponent still to be determined.

The fact that Hearn is scheduling Joshua’s fight on July 9 is obviously a move to take advantage of a big fight taking place on the same night between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko in Manchester, UK. I don’t see the logic of this undercutting move on Hearn’s part of staging Joshua’s fight on the same night as the Fury vs. Klitschko 2 fight, because it’s not as if the fights will be both televised on Sky Box Office.

Tyson Fury: Joshua looked slow and ponderous in the ring

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: While many of Anthony Joshua’s fans were crowing like a yard full of roosters after Joshua’s win over IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) last Saturday night, IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury wasn’t one of them.

Fury wasn’t impressed with what he saw from the 26-year-old Joshua in his two-knockdown stoppage win over the 6’5’ Martin in the 2nd round of their fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. What Fury saw of Joshua was a slow bodybuilder looking ponderous as he threw shots at Martin. Fury then called Joshua a lamb. I guess it’s one of those slaughter the lamb things.

Charles Martin: I got hit with a right hand I didn’t see

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) says he didn’t see the right hand that dropped him for his first knockdown of his 2nd round stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) last Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, UK. This wasn’t a good fight. I don’t like how the fight was stopped at the seven count instead of the normal 10 count. Martin still was ready to fight back when it was stopped. It was sad, really sad the way it was stopped.

From the clips I saw of the knockdown, it appeared that Martin’s right hand was held high and he didn’t see Joshua’s right hand that hit him and dropped him. It was a slow right hand and not particularly powerful looking.

Joshua stops Martin in 2nd, wins IBF title

BOXINGBy Jeff Aranow: Unbeaten Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) made easy work of a timid IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) in stopping him in the 2nd round on Saturday night to capture his IBF title at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Joshua knocked Martin down twice in the 2nd round with right hands.

Charles Martin ready to KO Anthony Joshua tonight

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: For some reason, IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) will be an underdog tonight when he enters the ring against unbeaten challenger Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Martin’s best chance of winning the fight is to take the heavily muscled 244lb Joshua into deep waters tonight before going for a knockout.

Joshua hasn’t had to go deep into his fights thus far due to the soft match-making that’s been done for him by his promoter Eddie Hearn, and there are some real concerns whether he has the stamina to fight longer fights. Joshua has transformed his once lean physique with lots of muscle since he turned pro, and it’s quite possible that the muscle would cause him to gas out in the later rounds.

Froch analyzes Martin vs. Joshua fight

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch says he thinks Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) will defeat IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) in their fight tonight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Froch doesn’t really given any concrete reasons why he believes Joshua will win other than him being a good friend of his.

I’m not sure if that’s a good reason to be picking a fighter to win. I mean, you kind of have to look at more than the fact that he’s your friend when analyzing whether he’s going to win or not, don’t you? Froch says Martin has a chance if he can land a shot at some point in the fight. Froch believes that Martin won’t just come in and give up the IBF belt to Joshua without putting up a tough fight first.

Charles Martin: I’m going to break Joshua down and stop him

BOXING By Scott Gilfoid: Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) says he’s fully prepared for his title defense on Saturday night against unbeaten and highly hyped Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, England. Martin had done his homework well in scouting out Joshua’s past fights and spotted the chinks in his armor.

Martin says he’s going to break the easy to hit 6’6” Joshua and then throttle him until he’s finished. Martin, 29, plans on using Joshua’s natural inclinations to slug against him by countering him until he either implodes or learns that he’s going to need to become more conventional by boxing instead of slugging.
