Anthony Joshua to fight twice more in 2016

anthny josuhua (7)By Scot Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua plans on fighting twice more in 2016. He beat Charles Martin by a 2nd round knockout this month in their fight on April 9. The victory proved little because it wasn’t against one of the more talented of the heavyweights in the division.

Joshua next plans on fighting on June 25 against one of three fringe contenders in Eric Molina, Dominic Breazeale or Bermane Stiverne. He then wants to fight against Tyson Fury in last 2016. I don’t know if that fight is going to happen under the ideal conditions, however. Fury will be fighting Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch on July 9, and the chances are that Fury loses that fight. Yeah, Joshua vs. Fury can take place, but it’ll likely only take place with Fury coming off of a knockout loss to Klitschko.

George Groves vs. Martin Murray on June 25

groves442By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn will be adding former world title challenger George Groves (23-3, 18 KOs) and Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) to the undercard of IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s next fight on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. With Joshua’s fight likely to be on Sky Box Office PPV, it makes it imperative that Hearn find a good solid match-up for the undercard in the co-feature bout.

However, Groves vs. Murray isn’t official yet, but it’s definitely one that has a good chance of ending up on the undercard on June 25. Murray plans on fighting next month on May 7 on the Anthony Crolla vs. Ismael Barroso card at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. This would be a tune-up fight for the 33-year-old Murray. He lost his last fight to former WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham by a 12 round split decision last November.

This was the fourth time that Murray has fought for a world title and the fourth time that he’s failed to win a world title. What was especially incredible was that Murray got two chances to fight for world titles in 2015.

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: The April 9 title fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) and Great Britain’s Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) failed to bring in a lot of viewers on Showtime for their fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The Martin-Joshua fight was televised in the States and it brought in a low average of just 275,000 viewers with a peak of 317,000 viewers for the fight, according to the Nielsen Media Research. There are couple of reasons for he incredibly low viewing numbers.

Haye thinks Joshua will fight Dillian Whyte next

joshua44By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye thinks that there’s a chance that IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) will be facing Dillian Whyte in a rematch for his next fight on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

This is rather strange that Haye should be coming with this out of left field about a potential Joshua-Whyte rematch because Joshua’s promoter just named three easy mark heavyweight fringe contenders that he has in mind for Joshua’s next fight on June 25. Hearn named Eric Molina, Dominic Breazeale and Bermane Stiverne as the big three that he’s looking to pick from for Joshua’s next fight.

Joshua’s next potential opponent: Stiverne, Jennings or Breazeale

1-JOSHUATRAINING18By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s first defense of his new IBF crown will be on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The opponent for Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) hasn’t been picked out yet, but his promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s got three American heavyweights – Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs), Bryant Jennings (19-2, 10 KOs), Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) and Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) that are serious options for the 26-year-old Joshua.

Hearn had been planning on staging Joshua’s next fight on July 9, the same date as IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s rematch against Wladimir Klitschko, but Hearn is no longer talking about wanting to do that.

Hughie Fury bragging about taking tough fights

hughie4By Scott Gilfoid: After three years as a pro, heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) will finally be taking on a decent opponent in the hard hitting and crafty Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) at the end of the month on April 30 at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

The fight will be televised on BoxNation. Hughie is bragging about how he’s taking on the tough fights that no one else wants to take. That’s pretty mind boggling that Hughie would come up with that line because the guy hasn’t faced a talented opponent yet. I mean, Hughie’s last fight against 40-year-old journeyman Dominic Guinn last March.

Haye looking forward to facing Joshua in two to three fights

haye1111By Allan Fox: David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) is quite pleased that IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is taking about having Joshua face Haye next year after Joshua faces IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury later this year if Fury gets past Wladimir Klitschko on July 9 in their rematch.

Haye sees the Joshua fight only two to three fights away, and he’s very much looking forward to that fight. Haye is locked out of a big money fight against Fury because he doesn’t want any part of fighting him after Haye broken down twice in two separate training camps that wiped out fights between them.

Fury: Only Wilder and Joshua fights make money

fury098By Jeff Aranow: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) says there are only two big money fights out there for him once he beats 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) in their scheduled rematch on July 9 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

As far as money fights go, Fury sees only newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) and WBC champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) is big money makers for him. Fury, 27, says he’ll never give David Haye a fight no matter how much money the fight would make.

Dillian Whyte not impressed with Charles Martin’s performance

whyte54By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight talent Dillian Whyte had the chance to see last Saturday’s fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua, and he came away from the experience disappointed in what he saw from the previously unbeaten 29-year-old Martin.

Whyte feels that Martin just came to give away his IBF crown, and he decided to give it away to the highest bidder. The money that Martin got for fighting Joshua was obviously more than he would have received had he defended it against the available opponents.

Anytime you see a champion volunteering to fight in a challenger’s hometown and country, it’s a red flag that the champion may be on his way to losing the fight.

Hearn wants Joshua vs. Fury in November

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is a priority for his fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua later this year in November if the two of them win their next fights. Fury will be facing Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch on July 9 in Manchester, while Joshua could be fighting in June or July depending on Hearn’s ability to dig him up a suitable opponent for yet another PPV fight on Sky Box Office.

The fighter that Hearn DOESN’T WANT for Joshua right now is the hard hitting David Haye despite the keen interest that Haye is showing in that fight. Haye sees weakness in the slow-moving, bulky Joshua, and he feels he can exploit that weakness if given the chance.
