Adrien Broner: The loss to Maidana woke up a monster

broner7849999By Dan Ambrose: Unless Floyd Mayweather Jr. steps in to trip up his big plans, Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) will be getting his rematch against WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on April 19th or the 26th. Broner exercised his rematch clause for his fight with Maidana, and he should be facing him next unless something unforeseen like the Mayweather fight being offered to Maidana wrecks his plans.

Broner extremely motivated to win this fight, and take back his title and his ruined credibility among boxing fans. It’s going to take an impressive win for Broner over Maidana to undo the damage caused by his loss to him last December. Broner loss the fight by the scores of 117-109, 115-109, 115-109. However, the scores don’t really tell you the whole picture about the fight, because Broner was knocked down twice and badly hurt.

Maidana: They want me to give a rematch to Broner; Khan never gave me a rematch

khan123By Scott Gilfoid: WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) finds it amusing that he’s being pushed to give Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) a rematch in April when he himself couldn’t get a rematch against Amir Khan after losing a close 12 round unanimous decision against him in December of 2011.

Golden Boy Promotions didn’t get Maidana a rematch with Khan despite the fight being a bout that cried out for a rematch due to how exciting it was, how close it was, and how referee Joe Cortez really got involved in breaking up the action when Maidana was trying to finish off a badly hurt Khan in the 10th, 11th and 12th rounds.

Schaefer says Broner vs. Maidana rematch in April on Showtime

broner8989By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is saying that Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) will be fighting a rematch against WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in April on Showtime. This news means that Floyd Mayweather Jr. can forget all about him getting little Mayweather, Broner, to fight on his undercard on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather had extended an invitation to the 24-year-old Broner a couple of days after his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Maidana last December. Mayweather also advised for Broner not to fight Maidana again and instead move down in weight to the light welterweight division to fight at that weight. It looks like Broner isn’t in the mood to follow Mayweather’s career instructions.

Broner: I’m not fighting anybody until I get Maidana again

By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) is stubbornly persisting with his goal of wanting to get a rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in order for him to win back his WBA welterweight title and avenge his loss. Broner seems to be ignoring the massive amount of advice that he’s been receiving to steer clear of the hard hitting Argentinean fighter Maidana and instead put his energies into moving down to a weight class where he at least has a chance of being able to compete against the best like the light welterweight division.

Sanchez thinks Adrien Broner can come back from loss

broner660By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez believes that former WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) can definitely turn his career around and come back from his defeat last month to Marcos Maidana. However, Sanchez thinks that Broner will need to move down in weight to 140 for him to have a chance of returning to form. He doesn’t believe that Broner is ready for the welterweight division right now at this point in his still early career.

“I think he can bounce back real good,” Sanchez said to Hustleboss. “I don’t think 147 is his weight. It may be in the future. I think it behooves him to get down to 140. I think Adrien had not had the difficult fights along the way to prepare him for Maidana…Broner has had a spoon-fed repertoire.”

Broner: Watch how I come back fighting for 7-8 figures

broner8583By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) is expecting to fight for big money when he returns to the ring at some point in 2014. Broner was dominated in his last fight in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision to Marcos Maidana last December, but he still feels he’ll get over $1 million when he fights again.

If Broner fights for a world title in his next fight then it’s definitely possible for him to get at least a million, but his comment about getting 8 figures would seem to be a dream that will never happen unless he moves back down to 135 and dominates at that weight for the next 5 years.

Broner might be back at 140 for next fight, says trainer

broner6789By Allan Fox: Michael Stafford, the trainer for Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s), says that Broner might fight at light welterweight for his next fight in moving down in weight from the welterweight division following his crushing loss to Marcos Maidana this month. But Stafford says that Broner probably won’t be going back down to the lightweight division to fight. Broner still holds the WBC lightweight title, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to bother defending the belt.

Stafford says that Broner wants his next fight to be a pay-per-view fight, but that’s obviously going to be tough to do given his loss to Maidana. Also, there’s not too many PPV fights that take place at 140. If Broner goes to that weight, he may need to pull a welterweight down to fight him in order to ask boxing fans to pay to see him coming off of his one-sided loss to Maidana.

Why Matthysse vs. Broner should happen

matthysse559By D.A: Last week we saw Adrien “The problem” Broner suffer his first defeat in a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in San Antonio, Texas. Broner took a hellacious beating and suffered his first 2 career knockdowns.

From what I was seeing by many boxing fans, casual or hardcore at least 90% were saying Broner would outbox “Chino” with ease and Maidana was tailor made. I am one who rooted for Maidana and was proven right. Now we know Broner is not the future nor is he the next Floyd Mayweather Jr., and never was to be exact. But a few months ago we saw Danny “Swift” Garcia outclass Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse on the undercard of “The One”.

Merchant: Will Broner become the next Berto?

broner7849999By Allan Fox: Former HBO analyst Larry Merchant saw what everyone observed last Saturday night with the highly hyped Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 K’s) getting beaten down by Marcos Maidana in losing by a painful 12 round unanimous decision. Now Merchant is wondering what Broner and Golden Boy Promotions will do to rebuild him.

Will he turn into another Andre Berto or improve and become the next Floyd Mayweather Jr? Merchant wants to see what happens next with him.

It would be a pity if Broner ends up being little more than another Berto, because Berto’s career thus far has been a bitter disappointment.
