Was the “rejuvenated Cotto” all hype?

1-canelo-cotto-results (17)By BN: Last Saturday night we seen Saul “Canelo” Alvarez win the WBC Middleweight championship of the world by 12 round unanimous decision over Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. First and foremost there should be nothing but respect towards Miguel Cotto as he put up a spirited effort and tried his best as he always does and fought like a warrior.

Canelo on the other hand was too much for Cotto and picked him apart by landing the cleaner, more accurate and heavier shots and consistently walked Cotto down over 12 rounds.

Is Adrien Broner destined to fail again?

broner456By DA: If you watched Premiere Boxing Champions on NBC last night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, you’ll have noticed that former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) looked good fighting a totally shot looking and gun-shy John Molina in beating him by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision. I already hear people claiming the fight may have been fixed or Molina took a dive etc etc.

People forget the 32-year-old Molina is coming off two brutal wars with Lucas Matthysse and Humberto Soto, both whom dropped Molina and beat him to a pulp. Not to mention John Molina has also been knocked out by Antonio Demarco in the first round a few years ago.

How Mayweather-Pacquiao was made

pacBy DA: If anyone is to be thanked by the boxing media and fans for putting together the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, that anyone should be CBS CEO Les Moonves for pulling all sides of Mayweather and Pacquiao to the table. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Moonves was the man who organized the meetings between Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and powerful manager/advisor Al Haymon.

CBS, of course, is the parent company of Showtime as Time Warner is to HBO. Moonves had apparently been working on this fight since before Mayweather and Pacquiao fought in the fall against Marcos Maidana and Chris Algieri.

David Lemieux in play for Canelo-Kirkland undercard on May 9th

lemieux4554By DA: #13 WBA,#2 WBC, and #5 IBF Middleweight contender David Lemieux is reportedly in talks to be apart of the upcoming Saul “Canelo” Alvarez – James Kirkland undercard on May 9th at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. This report came from LA times reporter Lance Pugmire in an interview with Oscar De la Hoya about 2015 being Boxing’s biggest year and Canelo Alvarez.

If Lemieux does get put as the co-main event that makes the card a lot better especially since it’ll be a championship bout given that Lemieux recently accepted the IBF’s offer in facing Hassan N’Dam for the vacant belt. The belt was held briefly by former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor but due to legal issues Taylor was stripped of his title assuming he won’t be able to make defenses of the belt. Taylor won the belt by defeating Sam Soliman in which he dropped Soliman several times.

Golovkin targeting to return in May 2015

Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Al Hart/HBO) By DA: Tom Loeffler of K2 promotions is interested in getting his fighter WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) back in the ring as soon as possible after his fight against England’s Martin Murray is taken care of this Saturday night on February 21st in Monte Carlo.

That’s assuming everything goes well for Golovkin in this fight and he adds another knockout victim or perhaps an unlikely unanimous decision. The target month for Golovkin’s next fight is May of this year, against whom is the question.

Canelo vs. Kirkland breakdown

canelo6767By DA: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1 31 KO’s) will be facing slugger James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland (32-1-0 28 KO’s) on May 2nd in a HBO broadcast which will be non-PPV. The bout is subject to be rescheduled if the Floyd Mayweather Jr – Manny Pacquiao fight does get made.

Then the fight will be moved to a later date “out of respect for the fans” says Golden boy President Oscar De la Hoya. But in reality HBO won’t have two events on the same night because for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on HBO will be doing a joint PPV broadcast along with Showtime.
