By Vince D’Writer: For the past couple of years, boxing fans have been thirsting for a mega fight, and they will finally receive one on April 22nd when Gervonta “Tank” Davis faces Ryan “KingRy” Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tank and Ryan are two boxing superstars who are young, undefeated, and they both have crossover appeal. Davis and Garcia have experienced success by winning and earning a substantial amount of money without each other, but now they have come together to risk it all, as somebody’s 0 has got to go.

During his most lucrative years as a professional boxer, Floyd “Money” Mayweather was the pound-for-pound and revenue-generating king from 2007 to 2017. Mayweather is a boxing legend and his influence on the current landscape of boxing is prevalent.

Because of Floyd Mayweather, boxers of today’s generation are focused on maintaining an undefeated record and being the boxer who goes into their fight negotiations classified as the A-side. Those two elements that Mayweather enhanced are the primary reasons why premier matchups fail to be made.

With Davis being classified as the A-side, Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) was willing to make multiple concessions during negotiations, and as a result, the fight was signed. Garcia is focused on earning validation from the boxing community, and he believes a victory over Gervonta Davis will serve as his official certification.

Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) is a man who built his brand from the ground up. Davis has elite punching power, and he has used it to post many highlight reel-styled knockouts. Tank is a boxer who has a loyal fanbase, and he’s headlined cards in front of sold-out arenas in Baltimore, Maryland, Brooklyn, New York, Washington D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia.

Gervonta Davis has used his boxing skill set to construct a successful career which has given him access to fame and fortune. Davis doesn’t need Garcia to make money, because he has already shown that he’s a featured attraction on his own.

Gervonta Davis has chosen to face Ryan Garcia because he wants to reward the fans with a marquee matchup, and he also wants to run through a potential hit list that starts with Garcia, moves on to Devin Haney, and it concludes with Shakur Stevenson.

Both Davis and Garcia had multiple options that are less challenging, and because of that, these two young fighters should be commended because they’re both willing to take the more difficult route by facing each other and placing their unblemished records on the line.

Davis is favored to win the bout, but this is boxing, and on any given night, anything can happen. Ryan Garcia is very talented, but Gervonta Davis is the more complete fighter. In addition to raw power, Davis has a high boxing IQ and he’s a master when it comes to setting traps for his opponents.

Even though Davis is the more well-rounded boxer, Ryan Garcia is the fighter who does one thing really well. Garcia is fast and surgical with the left hook, as he is capable of using it to knock out his opponent by landing the money shot to the head or to the body.

Going into the April 22nd clash, Ryan Garcia is the underdog, but he’s confident in his ability to shock the world and pull off the upset. During the Grand Arrival, Garcia spoke about being destined in regards to achieving victory.

“Gervonta, I’ll just say something, he’s a great fighter; I want to make that very clear, he’s a great fighter, but he cannot stop what’s going to happen Saturday night. Nobody in this room can stop what’s going to happen on April 22nd.”

Ryan Garcia is laser-focused for this fight, and his opponent Gervonta Davis is in the same type of zone. “Definitely going to put my work in, and hopefully he come ready; if not, it’ll be an early night,” Davis stated at the Grand Arrival.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis admits that from where he comes from, he’s already a legend, and that is true, but a victory against Garcia will take Tank’s legendary status to another level. A win for Ryan Garcia will translate to the boxing community finally having no choice but to put some respect on his name.

At a catch weight of 136 pounds, Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia will face each other in a boxing match that is the definition of high risk, high reward. Airing live on Showtime Pay-per-view and also streaming on DAZN, on April 22nd, both Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia will walk to the ring as undefeated fighters, but by the end of the night, somebody’s 0 has got to go.
