Ryan Garcia Pushes Rolly Romero Fight for Devin Haney

Ryan Garcia wants Devin Haney to fight Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero next to rebuild his career after his narrow loss to him last Saturday night in their mega-fight in Brooklyn, New York.

Rolly as a Rebound Opponent

Garcia sees the recently knocked out former WBA light welterweight champion Rolly Romero (15-2, 13 KOs) as a good option for Haney to get back on the winning track. Ryan says he’ll give Haney a rematch, but he wants to see him winning again.

That idea is what promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already suggested, wanting Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) to face Rolly next. It would be an interesting fight for fans, but Haney would have to likely vacate his WBC 140-lb belt to make it happen.

Haney’s WBC mandatory Sandor Martin is due, and it’s unlikely the sanctioning body will allow him to put him on hold yet again to take another fight without a step-aside deal. But in terms of money to be made, Rolly is an excellent fight for Haney to take to get some cash before fighting a rematch with Ryan Garcia.

Vacating the WBC title will allow Haney to fight Rolly or anyone he wants, and he’d make more money than he would fighting Sandor Martin to satisfy his mandatory commitment with the sanctioning body.

Garcia will take some major roasting from fans if he fights Rolly, but it’s better for him to deal with than fighting Sandor for little money and losing.

Garcia: Your New Promoter and Unofficial Daddy

“I want him to come back and fight Rolly. He should fight Rolly,” said Ryan Garcia on social media about who Devin Haney should fight next after his loss to last Saturday. “I’m your promoter now and your daddy.”

Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, won’t like Ryan telling him who he should fight next, but it is a good idea. If Haney fights someone like Sandor next, he might lose and his career will be down the drain.

I don’t see Haney agreeing to fight Rolly Romero because there would be a backlash from fans if he did take that match. The fight would make good cash for Haney, but it would be tough for him to deal with being dumped on for fighting a down-and-out guy who is coming off an eighth-round knockout against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last March.

“I’m Bill Haney now. I would promote Devin, though. I’m a good promoter. Devin, hit me up. 25 years old and $80 million already,” Ryan said, bragging about the huge fortune that he’s accumulated since last year.
