Adrien Broner says he’s going back to the STREETS without $10 million
By Mark Eisner: An upset-sounding Adrien Broner posted on social media on Tuesday saying that he’s still “adjusting to fame’ and that he’s going to back to the streets because he hasn’t heard anything about the $10 million that he recently asked for.
Broner’s request for $10 million is bizarre, to say the least, because he’s not made that kind of money per fight even during the best years of his 12-year pro career.
If Broner could fight as good as he can talk, he’d be on his way to the Hall of Famer.
It’s unknown if Broner is serious about his rants on social media or if he’s bored and messing around to get attention from boxing fans. The sport on lockdown right now, and it’s got to be hard for fighters that have grown up with a regimented life. With just time on their hands, it’s tough for young fighters and even aging guys.
The former four-division world champion (33-4-1, 24 KOs) says he doesn’t want to be called “AB” any longer, and he wants to be seen as a rapper. It’s unclear if Broner is making money as a rapper, though.
Broner hasn’t fought since last year in January in a 12 round decision loss to Manny Pacquiao.
Broner complaining about $10 million not coming his way
“I ain’t AB no more. When you see me, don’t call me AB. I’m Twin,” said Broner on social media. “This s*** changed me all the way back to Win. This s*** is over with. They ain’t talking about my $10 million. And they ain’t hit me up about my ten, so I’m Twin. F*** that. I’m a rapper. I’m a full-time rapper,” said Broner.
“I told you. So anybody that’s going to disrespect and talk crazy to me. Don’t do it because I’m at the point right now where I might rob you. I’m just being honest. Just because. I’m back,” Adrien said.
If Broner is serious about wanting $10 million, then that’s troubling because he’s not going to get that kind of money with his career having gone downhill. It’s hard to believe that only eight years ago, Broner’s career was red-hot.
He’d won world titles at super featherweight and lightweight, and he had many boxing fans comparing him to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Broner was expected to be the next big star n the sport, but it fell apart for him after he moved up to 147 in 2013 and lost to Marcos Maidana.
It was bad move for Broner to move up to welterweight, and an even worse one for him to stay in that weight class after losing to Maidana.
Adrien feels safe
“The streets don’t respect anything but violence anyway. I’m safe out here. I feel way more comfortable out here. See, when I was a superstar and a star and all that, I got in trouble because I wasn’t comfortable.
“Out here, I don’t get in trouble. This is normal day s***. I’m going to rob the f*** out of you. Say something to me. I’m still adjusting to fame, and I dare one of you rappers to try me.
Broner made a lot of money during his professional career, and it’s difficult to comprehend him blowing through all of it. He’s listed as having a net worth of $10 million. Did he spend that, or is he just playing games on social media, trying to present the image of being a tough rapper?
Broner talking tough
“I’m going to do you bad. You can’t beat me. I’m going to knock you out on camera,” said Broner. “What are you going to do? Sue me? Then my career is going to be over. And then if you want to go some extra street s***, I’m going to shoo the f*** out of you,” said Broner.
The former four-division world champion Broner needs to get in the gym and stay in shape for when the lockdown ends. He could be one of the first fighters out of the blocks if he’s in shape and ready to go when the sport resets.
Broner hasn’t fought in 16 months, and he hasn’t won a fight in 33 months. That was a questionable 10 round decision over Adrian Granados in February 2017. In Broner’s last three fights, he’s had these results:
- Manny Pacquiao – UD 12 defeat
- Jessie Vargas – Majority draw 12
- Mikey Garcia – UD 12 defeat
