By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says that some of the people around IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s are doing things that are causing the fight not to happen. It seems that Canelo’s comments about that the people around Golovkin is a shot across the bow to let them know that they need to pipe down if they want the fight to ever happen. Canelo is in the position where he can make sure that Golovkin never gets the fight if he wants.
It would be a case of Canelo shooting himself in his own foot by not taking the fight against Triple G, but he likely has enough Liam Smith type opponents out there for him to fight where he’ll be alright.
Canelo claims that Golovkin is making comments that he feels are disappointing to him. Canelo says that the fight with Triple G depends on the negotiations that take place between them. It’ll happen when it happens, says Canelo.
Canelo seems to be in the driver’s seat in deciding when the fight will be taking place. Golovkin and his team have been pushing hard for the fight with no luck whatsoever. They obviously can’t afford to back off and forget about Canelo, because if they say nothing at all, it likely will result in the fight never taking place. They appear to be the driving force to make the fight. Without the pressure coming from Team Golovkin, we may never see him and Canelo fight.
“It’s a little disappointing, the comments,” said Canelo to Fighthub.com about Golovkin. “More than anything, it’s the people around him that are influencing him, but that’s his problem. Any day, whenever it happens, it happens. People have changed Golovkin! They do things to make the fight not happen! I’m ready for anybody. When the date happens, I’m going to be ready for it. It depends on negotiations. It’s going to be the right deal. They’re always saying we’re running. We want the fight. Everyone wants to see the fight, and when the fight is going to happen, it’s going to happen. We all want the fight, and it’s going to happen. It’s just a small percentage of the people criticizing me. They’re probably his supporters,” said Canelo.
With an attitude like Canelo has, I hope Golovkin has a number of opponents lined up for the next year or two, because he might need them. Canelo has a really blaze attitude about the Golovkin fight that suggests that he won’t lose sleep if it doesn’t happen.
