The top ten World Champions and the meaningless Belt Holders

garcia665By Gerardo Granados: It is not easy to explain to some casual fans why the TV commentator says what he says during the bout. It is even worst, when they tell you that if they saw it on TV, then it is the only truth that exists, no matter what the rest of the world might think. But it doesn’t stops there, because it is impossible to explain to them why based on Danny Garcia performance against Robert Guerrero, you cannot assume he is better than Floyd Mayweather Jr. I wonder if it has happen to the readers too.

It has been two weekends in a row now that we witness how a new manufactured belt holder is created. With this trend, soon we will have a top twenty paper belt holder list, so let’s start with a top ten and hope that by years end, none of them still claim to be righteously called Boxing World Champions.

But before listing the belt holders, it would be better to list the top ten World Champions, those lion kings who truly deserve to be called World Champions, regardless of the alphabet organization title that they possess.

The top ten World Champions are:

1. Gypsy King Tyson Fury

2. Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez

3. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin

4. Krusher Sergey Kovalev

5. One time Keith Thurman

6. Francisco Bandido Vargas

7. Krzysztov Glowacki an example of heart, hunger and killer instinct

8. Arthur Abraham

9. Viktor Postol

10. Naoya Inoue

The current Top Ten Paper Belt Holders are:

1. Prince Charles Williams manufactured IBF heavyweight belt and awarded one year before defending his strap against his mandatory.

2. Danny Garcia not only protected and spoon fed but, also didn’t deserve a shot at the welter strap but the WBC manufactured him a shot against a tailor made opponent.

3. Canelo Alvarez never was ranked at the middleweight division but won his WBC belt at 155 pounds catch weight.

4. Terence Crawford is a talented boxer but, claimed a vacant WBO light welter strap and has not faced top opposition in his last year and two fights.

5. Leo Santa Cruz jumped over more deserving contenders and the WBA manufacture a super belt for him against Abner Mares.

6. Erislandy Lara not only lost to Alvarez in a fight Canelo opted not to fight for the regular WBA light middle strap but also the real champions was Floyd Mayweather.

7. Deontay Wilder a power puncher but also protected & spoon fed.

8. Adrien Broner his personality allows him to get endless shots at organization titles.

9. Nonito Donaire just won the WBO super bantam belt that was stripped from the righteous champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

10. Scott Quigg promoted to WBA full champion after Guillermo Rigondeaux was stripped.

Now it would be unfair to place all the blame on the boxers, because managers/promoters, TV people and the boxing organizations all contribute to the dilution of the competitive side of prize fighting and quality of match making.

This is the top ten paper belt holders list, but would the reader have included, the worst promoters, TV guys and organizations too?
