Superhero Fury ready for biggest challenge yet

furyBy Ryan Allan: The unpredictable Tyson Fury was at it again today as he caused an uproar at his press conference with Wladmir Klitschko ahead of their heavyweight title showdown, arriving to the venue today as Batman, donned in full cape crusader regalia.

Within moments, a man dressed as The Joker arrived to confront Fury, sorry, Batman, and he responded by leaping over the table, knocking over the Champion’s belts before taking out the superhero’s most dangerous and deadly rival.

In reality, and beyond the pantomime, it is Klitschko that is Fury’s biggest ever challenge, both physically and mentally and his antics today, no doubt in an effort to further sell the fight, also demonstrated the absolute madness that exists inside the brain of this unorthodox yet skillful heavyweight who is a 3/1 outsider for the fight.

The 27-year-old will face Klitschko in Dusseldorf next month with the Ukranian’s WBA, WBO and IBF world titles up for grabs and today’s events will certainly have hit headlines around the world, no doubt sparking an increased level of interest in what should be a very entertaining fight.

Fury, who has been preparing for the big fight sparring with kickboxing champions, is no stranger to controversy and today’s antics will have solidified the views of his detractors, who insist he has next to no chance in next month’s fight. It’s not an opinion I necessarily subscribe to.

Tyson, while certainly no re-incarnation of his great namesake Mike from an era gone-by, is certainly not going to be a pushover for the champion with Fury taller and the likely heavier fight on the night of the fight.

Fury has already demonstrated in a still young career some very good boxing skills, an ability to switch from an orthodox stance to southpaw and that vital element in all good fighters, namely a strong heart which has seen him get off the canvas and win on more than 1 occasion.

I expect the British fighter to give the long standing champion his toughest defense to date and I feel Fury has every chance of pulling off the upset at 3/1 odds but that’s a conversation for another day.

Fight-night is still over a month away and it will be interesting to see in the coming weeks if Fury has any ability to get under Wladimir’s skin which I am sure is one of the hoped for consequences of his bizarre yet brilliant comical behaviour. Of course the selling of the fight is never short from Fury’s mind either with the eccentric Brit not quite as silly as some would have you believe.

Fury is a boxing historian and knows his sport inside out. He might be bonkers, he might yet be brilliant but he is always entertaining. Wladimir knows it as well and Fury’s behaviour today will have done little to disturb the ice cold champion who is undefeated in 10 years and rarely looks flustered on the big stage.

This is going to be a cracking fight, make no mistakes about it and I will be posting further analysis of the match-up in the coming weeks as we get closer to fight-night.
