dulorme67By Jim Dower: The had hitting Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KO’s) defeated Karim Mayfield (18-1-1 11 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night to capture the vacant NABF light welterweight title at The Ballroom, Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. The final judges scores were 98-92, 97-94, and 96-93. Dulorme staggered Mayfield twice in the 1st round with big hooks to the head.

Mayfield was able to immediately recover and make it difficult for Dulorme by putting pressure on him, However, Dulorme was able to use constant clinching in each round to nullify the attacks from the shorter Mayfield, and this enabled him to cruise to a 10 round decision.

Dulorme suffered a cut on his scalp in the 6th round from a clash of heads.

In the 8th round, Dulorme got away with two brutal low blows that took the energy out of Mayfield. With Mayfield still not at full strength after the back to back low blows, Dulorme was able to win the round. Referee Steve Smoger didn’t take points away after the second low blow because he said that Mayfield had pulled Dulorme’s head down while he was throwing a punch.

In the 12th round, Dulorme constantly held to keep Mayfield from throwing his shots.

Dulorme showed excellent power in both hands, especially with his left hook. He didn’t use his jab as much as he should have, and that made the fight more difficult than it should have been.

Dulorme was able to keep Mayfield at the end of his punches for the most part in the fight. Mayfield tried to get inside on Dulorme, but he kept getting caught with some vicious shots. Even on the inside, Dulorme proved to be the better puncher. When Mayfield did come in close, he would frequently lean on Dulorme without throwing good shots.
