Is Floyd unsure of both Khan and Maidana?

mayweather434 (2)By jochef: Having been waiting for weeks now for Floyd Mayweather Jr to confirm his next opponent for his May 3rd Date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada, I’m starting to think that Floyd might not be happy with either opponent on his shortlist.

Both Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana have been waiting for the news that they will be the one to win the Mayweather sweepstake and a Career high payday. However, because of the amount of time it’s taking for the Mayweather camp to lock down an opponent it’s making me think that they may have someone else in mind and if so a Khan v Maidana rematch on the undercard would really help to sell the event with maybe the winner to face Floyd in his next fight.

Back in 2010, Khan and Maidana we’re involved in an absolute classic that won fight of the year, and I for one would be more likely to buy the pay per view with this fight as chief support, but who if not Khan or Maidana would be a good option for Mayweather? Let’s look at a few of the options:

Firstly, despite what many people say on the comment section of these sites, I don’t see Floyd avoiding anyone because of fear of losing to them. He has such confidence in his ability that he genuinely doesn’t believe anyone can beat him, his decision will be based solely on revenue and who will generate the most ppv buys.

If I were to draw up a shortlist of suitable opponents here is who I would choose, Keith Thurman, Erislandy Lara, Shawn Porter and Gennady Golovkin; others like Danny Garcia and Manny Pacquiao already have dates set.

Of these fights I’m not sure who would sell the most pay per views. “robably Golovkin or Lara but with Khan v Maidana on the undercard and possibly a Broner comeback I don’t see to many people being disappointed with a card like that.

On a personal note I would love to see Khan get the fight,. I think it would be great for British Boxing and could bring back a few of the memories of when Ricky Hatton’s army of fans took over Las Vegas, and I hope Floyd remembers that too and maybe that could be enough for him to give Khan the edge. The build up to a fight with Khan would be far more entertaining and you could argue that win, lose or draw, and it would probably be lose, a Khan fight would be far more entertaining too!
