Image: Pacquiao demoted to #7 in Ring pound-for-pound rankings; Mayweather now #1By Chris Williams: The Ring Magazine pound for pound rankings have so big changes following Manny Pacquiao’s 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. That loss dropped Pacquiao from #2, which he previously was tied with Floyd Mayweather Jr., to #7 in the rankings.

Mayweather has now been moved up one position to #1 in the rankings. Marquez is now ranked above Pacquiao at the #3 spot, and so is the young unbeaten WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner, who is at #5. WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero no long has to complain about not being ranked in the top 10, because he’s been moved to #10 in the rankings.

What also is interesting is that Nonito Donaire is now ranked above Pacquiao at #6 in the rankings. Who would have ever thought that would be possible?

Here’s how the Ring Magazine’s top 10 pound for pound-for-pound rankings shape up now:

#1 Floyd Mayweather Jr
#2 Andre Ward
#3 Juan Manuel Marquez
#4 Sergio Martinez
#5 Adrien Broner
#6 Nonito Donaire
#7 Manny Pacquiao
#8 Wladimir Klitschko
#9 Timothy Bradley
#10 Robert Guerrero

Pacquiao will likely get a quick chance to improve his rankings next year in a rematch with Marquez. Bob Arum wants the fight, Pacquiao wants the fight, Marquez wants the fight, and so does the boxing public. It should be a much bigger fight than this one was because of how the fight ended with Pacquiao out cold and face down on the canvas in the 6th round.

Mayweather will likely get a chance to kick Guerrero out of the top 10 if a fight between them is made in May of next year. That should be a pretty big fight too because Guerrero was able to drum up a lot of attention recently with his win over former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
