Image: Angel Garcia: Judah goes out in four!By Allan Fox Angel Garcia, the father of WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) wasn’t in the mood to show former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-3, 29 KO’s) any respect during their press conference this past week to promote the Garcia-Judah fight on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

When it came time for Angel Garcia to speak his thoughts on the fight at the podium in front of the press, Angel said “Every time he [Judah] stepped up he lost. So what is the point? He didn’t win when he fought Kostya Tszyu; that was his prime. He got clipped. That’s okay. That was his era, that was his time. This is a new era. We might be in Brooklyn. I feel for you all. It’s about Philly right now. Zab goes out in four. That’s a four round fight, he knows that. [Vernon] Paris. We used him for sparring. Danny knocked him down with the first punch. It took Zab 9 rounds to beat Paris.”

At this point, Judah got up and started jawing at Angel, saying “I’ve got more knockouts on my record than he [Danny] has fights.”

The fact of the matter is this fight is shaping up to be a mismatch. Hardcore boxing fans pretty much know this and don’t see it as a really competitive fight, but casual boxing fans who aren’t aware of how old the 35-year-old Judah is will be tuning thinking he’s the same fighter he was back in 2000. Angel Garcia was right.

That was Judah’s prime when he fought and lost to Tszyu. It’s been one steady slide for Judah since then and he’s had few wins against the top echelon opposition during the last decade. Judah beat Cory Spinks, Paris, Lucas Matthysse [Controversial decision], Kaizer Mabuza, but he’s lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr, Joshua Clottey, Amir Khan, and Miguel Cotto.
