Image: Danny Garcia likely to fight Zab Judah nextBy Dan Ambrose: If you were hoping that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) would get a significant fight next against the likes of Lucas Matthysse, Brandon Rios or Lamont Peterson you might be disappointed to learn that his promoter Richard Schaefer from Golden Boy Promotions is looking to put Garcia in with 34-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) next. The casual boxing fans likely won’t understand that Judah isn’t the same fighter he was 10 years ago is pretty well on his way to becoming a shot fighter.

Schaefer said to RingTV “Zab Judah has mentioned his name, so let’s see if he still mentions it. If he does, then that would be an attraction that would sell out Brooklyn right here.”

In other words, Schaefer would be looking for a money fight rather than a competitive fight for Garcia because Judah doesn’t stand a chance against Garcia, not even a slight chance. Judah was easily knocked out by recent Garcia victim Amir Khan last year in a 5th round knockout in July of 2010, and while Judah did win his last fight against Vernon Paris in March of this year, that win doesn’t mean a whole lot because Paris was an untested and unproven contender. Judah will be way out of his league against Garcia and it won’t be an interesting fight for boxing fans unless they like to see mismatches.

Garcia totally destroyed the aging 36-year-old Erik Morales last night in a 4th round knockout win at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia ended the fight with a big left hook to the head that knocked Morales senseless. Garcia had already dominated Morales earlier this year in a one-sided win in March, but boxing fans were forced to see the mismatch again because Morales had a rematch clause in his contract.

Showtime still chose to televise the Morales-Garcia II fight despite the one-sided nature of their first fight and the outcome was as expected with Garcia easily beating an over the hill looking Morales in a fight that wasn’t even worth watching. Now Garcia’s promoter Schaefer is looking to put him in with another mismatch against Judah that won’t be good for boxing fans because it’ll be a poor product.

Judah had been mentioned as possibly fighting IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson next. That might be a little more interesting fight, but I doubt that Judah would beat even Peterson because he’ll walk Judah down and give him a beating like Peterson did with Khan.
