Image: Haye to Tyson Fury: Why don't you fight David Price?By William Mackay: In the last couple of days unbeaten former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) has been trying to goad former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) on twitter into accepting a fight with him. Haye hasn’t shown the slightest amount of interest in taking the fight with Fury because he doesn’t see any real big interest there. Finally, yesterday Haye hit a nerve by suggesting to Fury that he go fight unbeaten David Price instead.

Here’s what Haye said to Fury on twitter: “Why don’t you call out David Price for a winner take all fight. He’ll except 100%.”

Fury didn’t like that answer at all and responded by saying “David Haye cuz u a pu**y I want. You always talking bout Vitali but u got spanked by baby bro [Wladimir Klitschko]! LOL”

Fury had a chance to fight Price last year when Price became his mandatory challenger to his British heavyweight title. Instead of facing the dangerous 6’8″ Price, Fury vacated both his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles, something that has led to him taking a lot of criticism for from the British boxing public as well as from Price. By backing down to a fight with Price, Fury unknowingly hurt his credibility with a lot of boxing fans. In hindsight, Fury should have agreed to fight Price because if nothing else it would show the kind of courage he has.

Haye probably would accept a fight with Fury in a second if it meant a big multimillion payday along the lines of the ones that Haye got for his loss to Wladimir last year. However, Fury has yet to establish himself as a major player on the world scene due to his mostly soft opposition he’s faced his entire career.

Fury could really help himself if he would start fighting world class contenders instead of guys like 41-year-old Martin Rogan and 38-year-old Vinny Maddalone. Fury has one decent heavyweight in Dereck Chisora last year in July. Unfortunately, Fury has been regressing in his last four fights since then, taking zero chances by facing nothing 2nd tier opposition. Those aren’t the type of fighters that will catch the attention of boxing fans, and the fights are so one-sided that it’s difficult to see how Fury is learning anything from them.

Fury should take Haye’s advice by agreeing to fight David Price. A win over Price would be a huge shot of adrenalin for Fury’s career and would prove that he’s at least the second best heavyweight in the UK behind Haye. However, it would be a risky fight for Fury because Price is a bigger puncher than him and a very dangerous. Fury could find himself getting knocked out and then he’d have to start over.
