Image: Hatton wants Khan and BrookBy William Mackay: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton has some ambitious goals for his comeback. He plans on fighting on November 24th, which will almost surely be an easy tune-up fight. But he’s interested in going after the big names such as Amir Khan and Kell Brook.

Hatton said to Sky Sports News “If I come back against a journeyman, I’m not going to fight for world titles. I need to come back against someone who is world ranked and who will put me in position to challenge for a world title. It will be a live opponent. There are British welterweight rivals in Amir Khan and Kell Brook, and I’d be a liar if I didn’t say I’d love a run at those two.”

Hatton’s goal is to try and win another world title. However, it’s unclear what kind of opponent he’ll be looking to fight on November 24th. Obviously it can’t be Brook or Khan, because Brook is fighting on October 20th, and there’s no way he could be back a month later to take on Hatton. Khan might be interested in a fight with Hatton, but there’s probably not enough time to build up a fight between Khan and Hatton.

Hatton will have take things slowly if he want’s to succeed because he’s been out of the sport for a solid three years since his 2nd round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2009. Hatton needs a decent journeyman level fighter that doesn’t have a lot of power but has a good chin that can give Hatton some rounds. It’s useless if they match Hatton with someone that will get crushed in one or two rounds, because he’s got too much ring rust for him to get anything from destroying some badly overmatched opponent.

It’s hard to picture Hatton winning a world title unless he’s matched very carefully. He’s in a good position to where he can get a title shot against WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi if he wants it. That’s probably Hatton’s only real chance of winning a world title, because he’s not going to beat Tim Bradley, Floyd Mayweather, Randall Bailey, Danny Garcia, Juan Manuel Marquez or Lamont Peterson. Those guys are too good for Hatton.
