Robert Guerrero: If Adrien Broner wants to come to 147, I’ll give him a beating

Image: Robert Guerrero: If Adrien Broner wants to come to 147, I'll give him a beatingBy Eric Thomas: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) is trying the best he can to get a big money fight against one of the top fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, thus far he’s no luck in getting Mayweather or the likes of Manny Pacquiao to step inside the ring with him. Guerrero would settle for lightweight Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) right now if Broner is up for the fight.

Speaking with Bleacherreport.com, Guerrero said “If he’s [Broner] willing to come up to 147, then I’m willing to put a beating on him and show him he must respect his elders…He should fight [Selcuk] Aydin, but I think Aydin would knock him out.”

Guerrero seems to be going a little overboard with that one, because there’s nothing that Aydin showed in losing to Guerrero last month by a 12 round decision that would suggest that he would do anything other than lose to Broner. Guerrero is clearly bothered by some of the comments that Broner said to him during their recent twitter war. Broner thinks Guerrero is just trying to use him to make a name for himself, and he doesn’t want to give Guerrero the chance.

It’s a fight that would benefit both guys win or lose. Broner needs a high profile opponent for his October 6th fight date on HBO, and the word is that his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions aren’t having much luck in trying to find someone for him to fight. With no other appealing options on the table, it only makes sense for Broner and Guerrero to fight in order to get a good payday.

However, Golden Boy is hoping that they can somehow get Guerrero a fight against WBC welterweight champion Mayweather, and if they put him in with Broner it could risk whatever small chance of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight happening. A loss for Guerrero would put the final nail in the coffin of his dream fight against Mayweather.

Personally, I think it’s about as possible for Guerrero to get Mayweather as it is for him to win a $300 million jackpot. There’s simply no upside for Mayweather to face Guerrero, and he’s not going to do it just because Guerrero is the WBC interim champion or because the World Boxing Council tells him to do it or Golden Boy wants him to do it.
