Image: Rigondeaux's emergency motion denied, fight with Marroquin still offBy Dan Ambrose: According to Dan Rafael, the Florida counts have denied WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux’s emergency motion for a stay in his injunction against him. As such, Rigondeaux will not be fighting on September 15th against Top Rank fringe contender Robert Marroquin.

When Rigondeaux fights next is the big question. He’s going to need work it out with his manager Gary Hyde who his next opponent will be because this could go on and on if they don’t get on the same page.

I don’t really care too much about Rigondeaux missing the Marroquin fight because it didn’t look promising to be a competitive match-up, as Marroquin isn’t on the same level as Rigondeaux and is arguably a step down from Rigondeaux’s recent mismatches against Teon Kennedy and Rico Ramos. It would have been nice for Rigondeaux to get a payday against Marroquin, because Bob Arum was interested in this fight taking place. But I saw it as an in house Top Rank fight that really had no business of being made in the first place, because it wasn’t a bout that would have done much for Rigondeaux other than the payday he would get. He needs to be fighting well known contenders, not fringe level guys that have already been exposed like Marroquin.

If Rigondeaux is ever going to get a fight against IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire then he’s going to have to take on notable fighters or at least the same guys that are being picked out for Donaire.

It doesn’t look good Donaire fighting a higher class o fighters and Rigondeaux having to settle for fringe level guys over and over again like Kennedy and Marroquin. There needs to be some quality mixed in there because Rigondeaux won’t become a star beating the likes of Marroquin and Kennedy, and he certainly won’t get any nearer to a fight against Donaire by fighting them. All he does by fighting them is give Donaire another excuse not to have to fight him.
