Image: Khan-Garcia: Angel Garcia seems desparateBy Mark Havey: Danny Garcia (23-0, KO’s 14) vs Amir Khan (26-2, KO’s 18) is just days away. The ‘behind the ropes’ episodes were interesting. Khan seemed focused but was taking too many shot in sparring. But maybe that was the point. Garcia also looked very focused but what was going on with his Father, Angel Garcia?

The relationship between Father and Son was uplifting but Angel is either to passionate or worried. All Angel did was talk. Wasn’t he supposed to be helping his Son? He was talking to the locals non-stop.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t stop talking in his situation. That’s why I could never train my Son. I would be very proud. But it wasn’t prideful talk. It was desperate justification. He complained that Khan’s name was first on the poster. He showed anxiety in not knowing who would walk out first. He played down Khans silver medal. Next he claimed that Freddie Roach was trying to hide the truth, supposedly he is referring to a lack of something in Khan. He said that Khan and Freddie don’t put fear in him, that is good but it isn’t him that has to fight. He repeatedly said that Danny is the champion and Khan is the challenger, yet Danny is the underdog.

He worked way to hard in trying to convince everybody that Danny Garcia is special. Couldn’t Garcia just prove that in the ring? I have never seen anything to advocate that Garcia is special. He is very good, he has talent, and he will likely match up well against Khan. But he isn’t special. At the end Danny said “I am ready for whatever. I come to fight and I come to destroy. I’m not bothered about who they are billing the fight off. Or who is getting more attention, because at the end of the day I am here to win”. He sounds positive. Angel Garcia could learn alot from his Son.
