Khan: Garcia has never fought anyone like me

Image: Khan: Garcia has never fought anyone like meBy William Mackay: Amir Khan doesn’t like the way that WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and his father Angel Garcia were speaking to him during Monday’s press conference in Los Angeles, but can you blame them? Garcia is a fine fighter and he’s spotted some glaring flaws in Khan’s game.

On top of that, Khan is coming off of a loss to Lamont Peterson last December in a fight that Khan tries to blame his defeat on the judges rather than taking responsibility for not fighting well. Angel Garcia doesn’t like that from Khan and sees it as someone that is just looking to make excuses instead of accepting what he couldn’t do in the ring.

Khan said “I promise you this is going to be a good fight. This is going to be a legendary fight…He has never faced anyone like me.”

I think Khan is pumping up himself a little too much here, because he’s looked anything but special in his fights against Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana, Paul McCloskey and Lamont Peterson.

The one fight in which Khan looked good in was his bout against Zab Judah, but then Khan went and ruined it by holding Judah down with his left hand and hitting him on the belt line to get a stoppage win in that fight. That looked really dirty and it’s too bad the referee didn’t see what Khan did in that fight, because the knockout should have never counted because of Khan holding Judah down when he threw the punch.

Garcia has all the ingredients needed to beat Khan. He’s got size, speed, power and a high work rate. Garcia has all the ingredients in one package. Khan has been troubled by fighters with power, but not speed. In this fight, Khan will be facing someone with all of those qualities and it’s going to be really tough on Khan trying to win this bout.
