Image: Mayweather vs. Cotto: RespectBy Dallan O’ Donnell: It seems as if nowadays in Boxing, fighters have no respect for each other. Trash talk is a must to hype up a fight and to generate anger toward an opponent. However in the recent face-off with Max Kellerman between undefeated legend of the sport Floyd Mayweather Jr. and current welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.

There was nothing but respect shown by both men. There was no brash trash talk or putting each other down, it was two gentlemen, conducting themselves in a manner that should make current champions and boxers stop and take note and make kids strive towards. Many fans are saying that the face-off was boring and when it comes to it, Mayweather will have to catty the 24/7 series on his own but this fight doesn’t need the hype, it doesn’t need 24/7 to promote it. It is what it is.

Mayweather vs. Cotto. If that doesn’t make you drool then you cannot call yourself a boxing fan. During the face-off itself Mayweather was checking up on a score of a match that he had put a bet on. Cotto smiled and was asked by Kellerman what he thought of the betting to which he simply responded; He has worked hard for his money, he can do what he likes with it. And to me as a viewer, it seemed as if Cotto wanted a piece of Mayweather’s action!

The inevitable Manny Pacquiao question was brought up by Kellerman, but Floyd was having none of it, when Kellerman attempted to ask Floyd if he thought that Floyd’s legacy would be affected by not fighting Pacquiao Floyd said he was happy with his legacy. He doesn’t need Pacquiao. And this is true Mayweather will become a legend, possibly the greatest ever whilst Pacquiao, no matter how many titles he wins in different weight classes will always be number 2 to Floyd.

Letterman asked Cotto if it annoyed him, that whilst it is him fighting Mayweather the Pacquiao name is still being brought up, to which Cotto replied; no, it is what the people want to see, is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, but first it is Cotto vs. Mayweather, may 5th. Mayweather also stated that he looks upon Cotto as an undefeated fighter, that both his losses were flawed as he was weight drained for the Pacquiao fight and that Margarito cheated.

Mayweather is fighting Cotto at 154 pounds, where Cotto is comfortable. Proving to fans around the world that he is the best and he doesn’t need a catchweight to beat someone. It is hard to predict a winner, when you are a fan of both fighters. My head says Mayweather but my heart says Cotto. I do however believe Mayweather will win by majority decision on the night, but it will be the toughest fight of his career.

This is boxing at its purest forms. Two fighters who are great champions, both future hall of famers and one arguably the greatest ever. It is a fight that could break PPV records. For Mayweather, it is another day in the spotlight, for Cotto it is another chance to become pound for pound champion, and write another chapter in the electric career of Miguel Cotto. What we do know is, together they could write boxing history. Follow me on twitter @dallan09
