Image: Klitschko: Mormeck will be similar to Tyson on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) will be facing one of his shortest opponents of his career on Saturday night when he takes on 5’11” Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) on Saturday night in front of what will likely be a minimum of 50,000 fans at the ESPRIT arena, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The 6’7″ Wladimir will be towering over the shorter Mormeck and this is going to be a huge mismatch unless Mormeck can get close enough to put a dent in Wladimir’s vulnerable chin.

Wladimir for some reason sees the 39-year-old Mormeck as another Mike Tyson. Why he feels this was is unknown because Mormeck isn’t fast like Tyson, can’t punch like Tyson and has a smaller frame than Tyson. Even as a cruiserweight, Mormeck wasn’t a huge puncher like Tyson, so it’s difficult to see what Wladimir is talking about when he continually says Mormeck is like Tyson. He’s not like Tyson at all. The only thing Mormeck has in common with Tyson is they’re both around the same height, but that’s it as far as I can see.

Wladimir told SKy Sports Ringside “He [Mormeck] will be very aggressive, very explosive, he will move forward and he will be similar to Mike Tyson with his style. He will move a lot with his head and he will throw a lot of punches from different angles.”

That sounds like Wladimir has been watching Mormeck’s fights from five years ago because that’s not how Mormeck fights now that he’s moved up to the heavyweight division. He used to fight inside and use a lot of head movement, but since moving up in weight Mormeck has become David Haye-like with his constant circling of the ring and his use of lots of feints to try and trick his opponents out of position. He jumps and lands a few shots and then backs out immediately and continues with his circling of the ring. It’s a really safety first style and completely different from how Wladimir is describing him.
