Image: Dawson in a good position to retire 47-year-old Hopkins on 4/28By Dan Ambrose: Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) is forced to fight WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) on April 28th in their rematch at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, Newark, New Jersey. Dawson already handled the 47-year-old Hopkins for two rounds last October in a fight in which Hopkins hit the deck and injured his left shoulder after falling down when he fell over Dawson’s back while missing a punch.

Now the two fighters will do it once more and it’s hoped that Hopkins doesn’t come down with some kind of injury that forces him out of the fight. Barring any kind of injury of one kind or another from Hopkins, I see Dawson beating him bad enough to where Hopkins will realize that he doesn’t have his skills any more and will go ahead and retire from boxing rather than stick around to get picked off by a lesser fighter than Dawson.

Dawson has advantages in multiple areas in this fight: Speed, power, height, reach, defensive ability and foot speed. You name it, Dawson’s got it in this fight. Hopkins has only experience and to some extent his inside wrestling ability. I don’t think Hopkins can beat Dawson on the inside or the outside in this fight, because he’s too strong and quick for the smaller, slower Hopkins.

This is going to be a one-sided fight from start to finish and I see it going really badly for Hopkins. I hope he doesn’t come down with an injury some kind that will mar the results of the fight because Dawson won’t get much credit if Hopkins goes down with an injury. He’s not going to get much credit anyway because of Hopkins’ advanced age. Beating a guy that’s nearing 50 isn’t a big deal like it is when you beat a guy in the prime of his career.
